You will hardly find anyone in the Indian domestic poker circuit who doesn’t know of Aditya Sushant. Nicknamed ‘Sushi’, he is a stalwart whose intrinsic understanding of poker saw the Chennaiite bring glory to the nation by winning India’s first World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2017. The poker superstar brought home his first WSOP gold bracelet when he shipped Event 10: $1,000 Tag Team at WSOP 2017 alongside Nipun Java.
It is worth noting that Sushant’s WSOP win was also his biggest cash, with the poker pro earning $75,319 for his performance at the WSOP $1,000 No Limit Hold’em – Tag Team (Event #10) in 2017. Sushant’s poker journey started in 2008 and saw him go through a roller coaster ride. However, things turned around when he took a trip to Goa in 2010 when he recorded his first live cash at the ₹10,000 No Limit Hold’em in India Poker Championship (IPC) event, with a 10th place finish earning him ₹10,000 ($219).
A day later, he took down the IPC ₹25K Main Event for ₹6.26 Lakh ($13,680) to become the first-ever India Poker Champion. He also proved that he was not a one time wonder by shipping yet another title in the form of the ₹15,000 No Limit Hold’em at the India Poker Championship in February 2011.
Sushant also achieved another notable feat achieved in 2017 when he finished second in the ₹100,000 No Limit Hold’em – High Roller at Deltin Poker Tournament to pocket ₹22,94,000 and recording a first place finish in the ₹15,000 Pot Limit Omaha at Deltin Poker Tournament to earn ₹4,76,950 just two days later.
Sushant’s brilliant poker skills are quite evident given his impeccable track record. At WSOP he has registered 46 cashes and earned $373,010 so far. One of his best performances in live poker came in 2022, where he finished second at the Baazi Poker Tour (BPT), where he participated in the ₹35,000 No Limit Hold’em – BPT Main Event and won ₹45,23,000. Similarly, he finished second in the ₹60,000 NLHE Main Event at the IPC Megastacks 2022 and earned ₹33,50,000 for his performance.
It is also worth noting that Sushant is just as good on the virtual felts as live. The proficient pro has won most of the prestigious online poker titles in India, including Spartan Poker’s SSS The Millionaire, banking an impressive ₹20.32 Lakh in prize money. The Chennai-based player has also shipped the PokerBaazi Classics (PBC) #1 MoneyMaker tournament and cashed an impressive ₹19,10,000 for the top spot.
With more than a decade’s experience, Sushant has gone on to become a household name in the Indian poker circuit. His poker resume shines bright with many domestic and international titles. It remains interesting to see what is in store for one of India’s most famous poker pros.
