Aditya Sushant takes 13th in Event #28; 6 Indians cash

Only two Indians have won gold bracelets in the history of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, one being Aditya Sushant (2017) and the other being Nikita Luther (2018). Of course, they became the natural favourites to do so again and bring home a third gold bracelet from WSOP 2019.

Aditya Sushant has gone on to make a good start at WSOP 2019, making what has been the best run so far by an Indian player in the series. He registered to Event #28: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em and with the low buy-in of the tournament, there were obviously a lot of Indian players in the field of 2,477 entries.

Some busted empty-handed while some others finished in the money as the tournament has now halted with just 6 players left at the end of Day 2. USA’s Stephen Song leads the final 6 and he’s most likely to emerge as champion of the tournament too and bag his maiden gold bracelet. Why? Because he has a massive chip lead, with 24+ million chips while the next best has just around 6+ million chips.

Coming back to Team India, a few made Day 2 and with the bubble bursting on Day 1 itself, all of them were in the money today. Sushant was ironically the shortest stacked from the Indian players at the start of the day and it shows the skill levels of the player who chipped up at right times and made a spectacular run, busting just before the close of Day 2 in 13th place and winning $17,409 (~INR 12.09 Lakh) for his efforts.

Knowing Sushant, he wouldn’t be too happy considering he missed out on a second bracelet and third overall for his country. Before Sushant, the other Indians to bust were Paawan Bansal in 64th for $4,283 (~INR 2.97 Lakh), Yudhishter Jaswal in 99th for $2,738 (~INR 1.90 Lakh), PokerStars Team Pro Muskan Sethi in 180th for $2,144 (~INR 1.48 Lakh), Ashish Ahuja in 309th for $1,612 (~1.11 Lakh) and Kartik Ved in 348th for $1,500 (~INR 1.04 Lakh). Indian origin Nipun Java also finished 275th for $1,753.
