We know Rubin Labroo as the 2020 India Poker Champion who shipped the India Poker Championship (IPC) Main Event for prize money of ₹45+ Lakh and a ₹20 Lakh pro sponsorship deal with leading online poker site, Spartan Poker. The online and live reg made it to Gutshot Magazine’s cover in July 2020 for his spectacular win at the popular live poker series. This win was a rather special one as Labroo ended up gifting his father a Panerai Luminor MS Dhoni edition watch.
The story leading up to this crusher’s IPC win is pretty intriguing. Labroo was going through a downswing and was looking for a breakthrough after bricking the Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) in the same year. What better way to get rid of your downswing than securing a victory at the coveted IPC event?!
The hunt for glory was on after he had a runner-up finish at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Kick-Off event in September 2019. This Delhi-based poker pro’s live resume may not be a heavy-duty one, but he has earned 100+ online titles in major tournaments. Labroo majorly plays online and shipped the Poker Masters Series by MPL Poker in October 2023 for a sum of ₹5 Lakh recently.
Also known by his online nickname ‘kornkid,’ Labroo took home his career-best online cash of ₹35,41,950 in PokerBaazi Premier League in 2018. India All Time Money List puts Labroo in the top 60 spots with his best live cash still being his IPC Main Event 2020 score. This Computer Science Engineering from Manipal University, moved out of his home to pursue poker full-time which obviously did not sit well with his parents.
But after his incredible win at IPC, Labroo’s parents were overjoyed. For someone who did no poker coaching, Labroo studied the card game from YouTube and Twitch videos. The 35-year-old highlighted in his interview with Gutshot Magazine that he did a course called Mental Mindset by Bencb which helped him deal with tilt.
To pick between live and online poker, Labroo easily answered that question by saying live poker helps him stay focused on one table in front of him. This pro explains that online poker is a gold mine but discipline to play 7-8 tables at a time is very crucial. To put it simply for the readers, Labroo is one of the experienced poker pros the industry has seen. With some hefty titles to his credit, we expect Labroo to race ahead given his impeccable poker skills.
