Rubin ‘kornkid’ Labroo wins PPL Main Event

Sundays are always a good time to play poker online as most of the top poker companies in India tend to host their biggest guarantee tournaments on Sundays and holidays, to ensure the maximum participation. Similarly, PokerBaazi ended their PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL) Summer Edition, with the Main Event held on 24th June 2018.

The Main Event had a massive buy-in of INR 16,500 and an advertised guaranteed prize pool of INR 1 crore, along with a guaranteed prize of INR 25 lakh to the first-place winner. It saw a participation of 563 unique entries and 363 re-entries which crushed the guarantee, making a new prize pool of around INR 1.39 crore.

The prize for first place thus was also boosted and the tournament was ultimately shipped by Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid’, taking home a massive top prize of around INR 35.42 lakh. He beat Manish Jain aka ‘youngistan’ in heads-up, who also took home a prize of over INR 20 lakh for second place. The tournament lasted slightly over 9 hours!

Ramlakhan Meena who plays under the username ‘Hitler’ was another big winner, topping the PPL Summer Edition Leaderboard and also taking away INR 3 lakh worth prizes for the top place. What’s more impressive is that he successfully defended his earlier win, taking down the PPL Spring Edition Leaderboard in February this year as well.

Gutshot caught up with Labroo to ask him about this big tournament win and playing on PokerBaazi. He said, “It’s really a surreal feeling. It took me a day to digest the win – the biggest GTD tourney till date and obviously my biggest win. I have been playing on PokerBaazi almost since their inception and they have come a long way. Great tournament structures, quick software and a very helpful support team.”

He spoker about Vishal Tulsyan being big competition on the final table, having a abig stack abd being capable of putting him under pressure. We also asked him about his plans for the future and for this prize money. He said, “No specific plans. I’ll travel a lot more for sure, but I’ll just keep doing what I love the most. I’m planning to play a lot more live poker this year and travel a lot. Will start with Asia and then Europe, if possible. Meanwhile, will also be playing online to boost my bankroll.”

Final table results:

  1. Rubin ‘kornkid’ Labroo – INR 35,41,950
