WPT India 2020 Goes Online, Between 5-22 Nov

There’s so much happening in the Indian poker industry right now even though most parts of the country are under lockdown. Live tournaments have been Globally affected by the virus, online poker has been booming. WSOP 2020 Online series just concluded a week ago and now World Poker Tour (WPT) Online India is all set to host its first online series in India between 5-22 November. 

WPT India History

After three successful live seasons in India, WPT is back but this year, this electrifying event will be hosted online. India is a massive market for poker (especially online poker) and there was no way WPT wasn’t coming back for another series. WPT India was powered by Adda52 and the online event will also be hosted on Adda52. Here’s a look at the past WPT India champions: 

  • 2017 – Vikash Mantri
  • 2018 – Nikunj Jhunjhunwala
  • 2019 – Ashish Munot

WPT Online India 2020

For the first time, we’re set to take the WPT India series online. While pasts seasons have had up to 7 tournaments at the Deltin Royale in Goa, the online festival will consist of a massive 154 events on Adda52 with a massive INR 13.5 Crore series guarantee (approx $1.8 million). Major international brands hosting a series in India is great for the sport in this country and proves how poker has grown to be a game of skill. 

WPT India 2020 Goes Online, Between 5-22 Nov

WPT Main Event 

Well, the highlight of the series is the WPT India Main Event that will run from 11 – 22 November. With a buy-in of INR 11,000, the main event will consist of 10 flights in a span of 10 days. Players participating will battle it out to grab a share from the massive INR 2.5 Crore prize pool ($340,000). Block your calendars and prepare yourself to take part in this major event of WPT India. 

POS Leaderboard 

Like most festivals, the most consistent players are awarded with huge rewards and prize money. This year there won’t be one but two Player of the Series(POS) Leaderboards that will give away a INR 35 Lakh in prizes, in addition to the tournament prizes. 

  1. To be eligible for the MEGA POS Leaderboard which gives away INR 25 Lakh, players must participate in the 29 qualifying events which have buy-ins of upto INR 55,000. The top winner in this leaderboard will claim INR 10 Lakh plus the POS Trophy. 
  2. Likewise in the MINI POS Leaderboard, a total prize pool of INR 10 Lakh will be distributed among the top 10 players. Eligibility will be from a total of 125 qualifying events, and the leaderboard winner will take home INR 3 Lakh in prize money!

We’re set for yet another major series to begin, having debuted in Goa in 2017. Vikash Mantri topped a field of 527 entries to win the inaugural WPT India Main Event while Nikunj Jhunjhunwala beat 697 entries in 2018. Last year, the tournament attracted 630 entries and it was Ashish Munot who took down the Main Event title.

“WPT has moved the yearly stop in India to our online platform Adda52.com. We are unable to have our yearly feature at the Deltin Royale due to the Covid -19 pandemic. The WPT Online India festival will start in early November and features a 2.5 Crore GTD Main Event with 2 leaderboards and other welcome prize attractions for the winners. Schedules and other details will follow soon. We hope to make it a memorable experience for players in the country and look forward to crowning the new champions in 2020,” said Manish Adnani, Business Head – Poker, Delta Corp, about the upcoming series.
