Poker Sports League (PSL) is first of its kind in India. The league follows a unique team-based format and has a mix of professional and amateur poker players. The past two seasons of PSL were played live but due to the pandemic, season 3 will now be held in an online format. This decision to take the league online has opened the doors for many players to participate from all over the country.
Poker was once widely regarded as a male sport and the presence of women in the game was minuscule. But through the years and the introduction of online poker, many notable women players have cropped up over the world, especially in India. The entry of women into the Indian poker scene has definitely grown over the years.
This year, PSL has seen a rise in women players with one in each team. Many of these women have contributed to the Indian poker community in a big way. Let’s take a closer look at these amazing players and their accomplishments.
Recognized as India’s first professional woman poker player, Muskan Sethi is one of the best players in the field. Interested in poker since a young age, Sethi has played in many international events and is passionate about the game. She is a trailblazer for many women in the Indian poker scene and tries her best to promote poker as a sport. She will be playing for team Deccan Aces in PSL Season 3 Virtual as a Hashtag Poker qualifier.
With several wins and cashes under her belt, Smita Agarwalla is one of the most successful female poker players in the country. Hailing from Gurgaon, Agarwalla was introduced to poker between 2007 and 2008. One of her most notable wins was beating a field of 408 entries to bag the top spot at Adda52’s Godfather 6.0. Agarwalla has teamed up with Kolkata Kings as a Hashtag Poker qualifier for PSL Season 3 Virtual.
Ever since she started playing poker in college, Niharika Bindra has shown steady rise in her game. An inspiration for many female players, Bindra has been a part of the poker community for over a decade. She has won multiple tournaments like PokerBaazi’s The Endeavor and even won INR 9.90 Lakh as a runner up for Adda52’s Mega Suits. For PSL Season 3 Virtual, Bindra will be playing on team Delhi Czars as a season 3 online qualifier.
Simran Malhotra is one of the newest players in the field, but she is surely the one to look out for. Trained by Proffz4 and thanks to her hard work, in just ten months Malhotra will now be playing on team Gujarat Falcons as a season 3 qualifier. Being a fresh face in the poker community, Malhotra has a lot to look forward to.
Her passion for mathematics is what drew Nikita Luther, one of India’s top women poker players, to the game. She is the first and only Indian woman to win a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and the second Indian player to do so. Luther also signed as a pro on Spartan Poker, one of the biggest gaming platforms, and will be leading team Mumbai Anchors as the only female captain in PSL Season 3 Virtual.
Known popularly in the poker community as ‘pokermom,’ Radhika Shankar is one of the well-loved players in the industry. One of her career highlights as a player was going from INR 225 to INR 2.8 Lakh in DTPX. Coached by Abhishek Goindi from Poker Bootcamp India, Shankar is among the skilled professionals in the game. She will be adding her poker skills as a Hashtag Poker Qualifiers to team Goan Nuts for the upcoming PSL Season 3 Virtual.
Kanchan Sharma was introduced to poker in 2017 and is a known name in the live poker circuit. She made headlines when she was the last female standing at the Indian Poker Championship (IPC) Final Table Series Main Event on 23 November 2020. She came in fourth position and bagged INR 13,79,136, her biggest win yet. Sharma will be playing as a pro with team Bengaluru Legends of PSL Season 3 Virtual.
Mahima Walia Das is one of the top players in the Indian poker circuit. She is popularly known for her Millionaire United win on Spartan Poker in March 2020 and being the eight Destiny 2.0 winner back in 2017. She began taking an interest in poker after tying the knot with Anirban Das aka ‘pokernoob,’ one of the popular players in the circuit. Das will be playing on team Chennai Troopers as a Hashtag Poker qualifier for PSL Season 3 Virtual.
