Game Of Gold Ep 1: Michael Soyza In Hot Water

The Game Of Gold episode 1 is all about introductions, knowing your team members and playing round 1. The episode begins with players being slotted in respective teams. 

The much talked about poker reality show sees heavy weights like six time World Series of Poker (WSOP) Daniel Negreanu, Asian Poker Tour (APT) co-owner Michael Soyza, 10-time Triton Poker Series champ Jason Koon, WSOP bracelet winner from India, Nikita Luther, Josh Arieh, Maria Ho and Dan Cates. 

When the first round began, it was Luther vs Kyna England vs Olga Iermolcheva vs Soyza. Soyza loses a hand to England’s straight when she hits a 5 on the river to complete her winning hand. The episode is all about Luther, Iermolcheva and England locking horns with the Asian poker pro.

Soyza got dealt aces and England was sitting ducks against the all-in call the former made. This gave Soyza the chip lead but did that last long?

Soyza (QJo) lost to Iermolcheva’s A2s when the board read Kd Jc Qh 4d Td. The former folded with a heavy heart. Despite this Soyza was in action throughout the episode, while winning some hands, losing some and folding some. Iermolcheva was her unpredictable best on the table doing things one doesn’t expect and talking with her table mates. 

Just before the episode ended, a hand played out between Soyza and Iermolcheva. The Ukrainian player had AJs on the big blind spot while her rival had Q3o on the button. The Asian player raises to 90K, Luther and England fold and Iermolcheva matches. 

The flop brings Kd 5c Ac. Soyza bets 70K and his opponent calls. T of spade appears on the turn and Iermolcheva checks to let the ball land in Soyza’s court. He bets 240K which meant Iermolcheva was thinking about her next move. 

She calls and sees a river of 8c. Soyza bets 600K to save his sinking ship, but Iermolcheva was in no mood to let this one go, given her Ace-pair was a winner and good to hold water for her in this hand.
