Founded in 2008 by a group of poker enthusiasts, the Asian Poker Tour noticed the growth potential of poker in Asia. A key objective of the APT was to establish a professional and competitive poker tour in the entire region, with APT said to aim to become a prime series in Asia.

The first-ever APT tour officially kicked off in 2008. APT started off with APT Macau and the Philippines in the first year and continued to go on for the first three years. They started to add more stops, with APT making a stop in Goa, India, in 2011.

Since then, APT has held multiple events across various venues, which include Cambodia, Manila, Mauritius, Macau, Philippines, China, and Vietnam, with a special event also taking place in London. APT also took players to Sydney as a special event in 2013. It also moved around to Prague apart from the other above-mentioned venues.

Indians at APT Poker Tournaments

Abhinav Iyer, India’s first solo bracelet winner won the Asian Poker Tour (APT) in Ho Chi Minh city back in 2019 where he outlasted a field of 525 players across various starting flights. In the same year, Akshay Nasa claimed the Main Event of APT Ho Chi Minh 2019 during the November edition where his exceptional poker skills earned him top prize of VND1,486,560,000 ($64,334) and the title.

Almost four years later, we saw yet another Indian win an APT Main Event title as Indian pro and poker coach Shardul Parthasarathi shipped the Main Event of APT Hanoi 2023.
