Sood, Ved, Vishal Progress to Day 2 of WPT Prime Vietnam Opener

In the Indian live poker circuit, a lot of eyes have turned towards the India Poker Championship (IPC) which is being played slightly away from home in Jhapa, Nepal. The top players in the country are battling it out there right now but elsewhere in the world as well, we have some Indian pros making heads turn.

We’re talking about the World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Vietnam which is happening as we speak at the host venue, Crown Poker Club in Hanoi. Vietnam is also close to home for Indian players and we have a small contingent playing there as we type this. The WPT Prime Vietnam Opener is currently taking place, with a buy-in of VND 8,800,000 and a whopping VND 2.5 Billion guaranteed prize pool.

So far, Day 1A and Day 1B of the tournament has come to an end and we have three Indians who have managed to qualify and bag a stack to Day 2 of the Opener. This includes Gaurav Sood (255,000), Vishal Bajaj (203,000) and WSOP bracelet winner Kartik Ved (167,000). They’ve advanced among a total of 38 survivors from these two starting flights and will play Day 2 on 22nd May 2022.

On Day 1A, we witnessed a total of 123 entries from which 15 players bagged a stack at the end of the specified levels for the day. Similarly on Day 1B, the field size was 185 entries, from which 23 players progressed to Day 2. Before we play Day 2 however, there’s Day 1C scheduled today, 21st May, and it’s possible we may see some more Indian players in the mix.

The guarantee has already been passed and the prize pool is likely to be further inflated after the third flight today. Well-known local pro Terry Nguyen is leading the pack after Day 1A and 1B with a massive stack of 556,000 chips. The total field of 308 entries is possibly going to cross the 500-entry milestone at Hanoi today.

Top Day 1A and 1B combined chip counts:

  1. Terry Nguyen – 556,000
  2. Nguyen Ho Tung – 427,000
  3. Ngueyn Hoang – 411,000
  4. Nguyen Tien Thanh – 389,000
  5. Than Nguyen – 339,000
  6. Phillip Nguyen – 336,000
  7. Bui Duc Thien – 315,000
  8. Nguyen Duy Vu – 288,000
  9. Nhat Nguyen – 279,000
  10. Krishna Wadeesirisak – 271,000

All the three Indian players in this field have got some great live and online records and we hope to see them chip up early on Day 2 and go for some of the top prizes on offer. For all updates from the WPT Prime Vietnam Opener event in Hanoi, stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com
