Pulkit Goyal became the fifth person to be crowned champion during the 2020 GGPoker World Series of Poker (WSOP) Winter Online Circuit. He won the biggest share of the $593,370 prize pool after going through a field of 1,041 entries, consisting of 619 unique entries and 422 re-entries.
Goyal defeated Loucas Kourtoumbellides aka ‘Rage Monkey1’ to claim the top prize of $82,052 while his opponent came in second with $61,530 to his name. Only the top 179 spots were paid. Goyal also has five WSOP cashes before this big win. Three of the two cashes were at the King’s Resort in Rozvadov and the remaining two were during the 2020 GGPoker WSOP Online Bracelet Events held earlier this year.
With major cashes and wins to his name, Goyal is following the footsteps of fellow Indian players like Nipun Java, Abhinav Iyer, Nikita Luther, Aditya Sushant and Kartik Ved who all have won a WSOP bracelet. Along with $82,052 (INR 60.0 Lakh) prize money, Goyal will also receive a WSOP Winter Circuit Ring.
There were more than 300 players in the first level of the day. The tournament allowed three re-entries per person which resulted in a little more than 40.5% of re-entries once the registration closed towards the end of level 15.
Many players rushed towards the money bubble, while players like Felipe Ramos, Niklas Astedt and Mike Watson were already out before reaching it. It was George Wolff who became the bubble boy. Surprisingly, GGPoker ambassador Fedor Holz reached 38th place in the PLO tournament, who is known for No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) tournaments.
Goyal’s win in the $593,370 worth Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) further solidifies the Indian presence in the world poker stage. We can expect to see a lot more of Pulkit Goyal in the Indian and world poker scene.
