For example, when a player announces a bet even before the cards we are dealt. In Hold ’em, when a player raises and other players call, even before the flop opens, the player says, ‘I bet $50 in the dark.’ This means, the flop betting begins with the 50$ bet.
A player bets in the dark if they are the first ones to act on a betting round or after other players have also checked in the dark. Check in the dark means to check without even looking at your cards. The player must place the chips for the bet on the table, in order for the bet to be valid. Once a player has bet in the dark, they cannot reverse their bet even after the cards have been dealt.

A player may choose to check in the dark if they are the first to act in a round or if they are the first to act after all the other players have all also checked in the dark. It is believed that when you check in the dark, your hand is not worth betting.
