It is no secret in the poker community that there has always been a little bit of rivalry between Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk. Polk who has been in qualms with Negreanu in the past, especially with his comments on rake which produced the infamous tag line ‘more rake is better’. Negreanu, one of the top poker players in the world and Polk, a semi-retired professional battled it out on the first round of what many called the ‘Grudge Match’ of the century with Negreanu coming out as the winner. Starting with the first 200 hands out of the 25,000 they will be playing, Polk admitted he was more at home playing online.
The entertaining three-hour long video was streamed live on YouTube from the Las Vegas PokerGO studio on 4 November. The match started off with Negreanu drawing first blood with his pair calling Polk’s bluff. The two exchanged playful banter over the course of the game surprising commentators, who claimed that they did not look like two people who had been feuding for almost a decade. Surprising as many expected them to pass comments or throw jabs at each other.

Negreanu also took to Twitter on 6 November, to show off his preparations for his upcoming online matches with Polk, boasting a comfortable gaming chair with multiple cameras and screens. He also addressed some issues he was facing with his internet connection, prompting him to keep his iPad on standby just in case his Wi-Fi gave up on him and he had to run into the nearest café to resume his match.
This is my set up for the match tomorrow. Surveillance cameras were installed today, got my space chair, a comfy blanket and a backup IPad just in case my internet goes out.

The first game was a weak start for Polk as he did not have a single chip lead the entire time with Negreanu taking the win with a profit of USD 116,500. A victory lead continued by him as he recently won a total of USD 101,792.78 from the current tally of 624 hands out of the 25,000 they will be playing. We have a lot more to look forward to in the upcoming matches, but one thing is for sure, that this is only the start of long epic battle between the two.
