List Of David Chiu’s WSOP Bracelets


A restaurant owner turned poker pro, five-time World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner David Chiu’s achievements are skyrocketing, standing on the 13th spot on USA’s all-time money list. This Chinese-American player won his first WSOP bracelet in 1996. He won his consecutive bracelets in 1998 and 2000, respectively. . While the first two were in No-Limit Hold ’em, the third bracelet was in the Seven Card Stud. His recent bracelet was in the Seven Card Stud game. Chiu dedicated his win to the late Dr. Jerry Buss, one of the most well-known stud players in the past few decades. 

This particular tournament where Chiu emerged the winner had 246 entries and the final prize pool stood at $559,650. Some of the top poker players like Michael Mizrachi, Adam Friedman, Mike Sexton, and Daniel Negreanu were competing for this title. However, after shipping the event, Chiu added, “I am dedicating this gold bracelet to Dr. Jerry Buss. This is for him because he had so much love for this game. We all miss him so much. I want to do this for him, and it’s why I played so hard to win.”

None of the WSOP victories came easy to this player. Chiu made it to the event’s final table thrice but could not clinch the WSOP bracelet and finished as the runner-up. While he enjoys immense fanfare among poker greats, Chiu considers Chip Reese as his favourite player.

  • WSOP 2013  – $2,500 Seven Card Stud – $145,520

With five bracelets, Chiu joins the elite club alongwith Michael Mizrachi, Allen Cunningham, Brian Rast. Shaun Deeb, Scotty Nguyen, John Juanda, Jason Mercier, Daniel Alaei, Brian Hastings, Berry Johnston, Stu Ungar, and Gary Berland. Chiu has been hailed  as an ace poker player, and commentator Mike Sexton called him the ‘A guy who knows how to win.’
