Intel To Host Esports Event During Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games


Intel World Open is the sponsor of the International Olympic Committee (IOC.) As a part of the brand’s worldwide partnership, it will host an Esports event in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Intel, the world’s largest semiconductor chip brand is the official Event Partner and this will also feature Street Fight V: Champion Edition and Rocket League, some of the biggest esports titles in the world. The online qualifiers for the Rocket League and Street V: Champion Edition are expected to start on 1 June. Participants can start registering from 15 May for the qualifiers.

Marcus Kennedy, General Manager of Intel’s Gaming and Esports Division said, “We are supremely excited to bring back the Intel World Open as a virtual tournament. We wish to continue raising the stakes for esports.” He further added, “This Intel World Open exemplifies Intel’s global leadership in PC Gaming and Esports while also delivering some of the best tournaments on the world’s biggest sports stage.”

Players at any level can compete in the Intel World Open. After this open competition, the field will be narrowed down to the top players only. With this recent announcement, the IOC is expanding its presence in the world of gaming. The event was originally slated to take place in September 2019 and was set to run as a physical event in Katowice and Poland. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed. 

Other than this, Intel will also be collaborating with ESL for the events that take place in 2021. Intel’s sponsorship will also include the ‘Intel #PREMVP,’  which lets fans listen to specific calls from players during the ‘Intel Team Comms’ matches.
