Hitwicket Superstars wins Government’s AatmaNirbhar Challenge


AatmaNirbhar Bharat Innovate Challenge was initiated by the Government of India which aimed at identifying apps made in India, that displayed potential to be leaders in respective categories such as entertainment, health, office and gaming. Hitwicket Superstars, a cricket strategy game bagged the top spot in the gaming category which was held by the Centre on 7 August.

The App Challenge was launched on the MyGov platform, the citizen engagement platform of the government. The challenge initiated from 31 July to 4 August and saw as many as 6,940 entries from tech entrepreneurs and start-ups across the country. Over the period of five days, the Jury members assessed the Apps on the parameters of scalability, robustness, ease of use and security. After receiving presentations from all categories, a total of 24 apps were rewarded.  The results were announced over a live stream delivered by the Government of India’s Digital India channel on YouTube.

Hitwicket Superstars enjoys a diverse user base, 20 percent of which is female and 30 percent are outside of India from cricket-loving nations like Australia and the UK. Founded in 2015 by Hyderabadis Kashyap Reddy and Keerti Singh, Hitwicket was launched with a vision to build a world-class cricket game and the first mobile Esports IP from India. Hitwicket Superstars launched earlier this year has over 9,00,000 downloads across Android and Apple stores.

Keerti Singh, co-founder and VP- Growth, Hitwicket Cricket Games said, “It’s very encouraging to see the government taking cognizance of gaming in India and the potential for creating a world class game made in India for India and the world. 25 percent of our team is composed of women, young girls deeply passionate about cricket and gaming working in product, data and design that helps us create a game that is truly inclusive, like the spirit of cricket that resonates with all”

Commenting on securing top spot in the gaming category, Kashyap Reddy, co-founder, Hitwicket Cricket Games.“Our goal is to marry the mass appeal of cricket with the accessibility of mobile gaming and put India on the World map as a prime hub of Esports and mobile gaming.”

India is one of the largest app publishers in the world, and the developer community in India have the potential of making Apps that can be the best in the world. It was interesting to note that many of the apps developers were women and represented almost the entire country.
