Back in 2019, Teenager Wins $3 million at Video Game Tournament

Fortnite has become a global phenomenon ever since it was released by Epic Games in 2017. With over 10 million players within two weeks of the release, today its net worth is estimated around $2 billion with new modes and chapters to be released. Their net worth is likely to be increased since the lockdown as people across the world opt to play online games.

A 10th Grader from Pennsylvania, Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf celebrated by winning the Fortnite World Cup at Arthur Ashe Stadium on July 28, 2019 in New York City. It was the largest prize pool in the history of esports, with $30 million shared amongst the winners. The game involved 100 players being dropped onto an island where they had to find weapons, build structures, and eliminate each other until one player comes out on top.

“I think the moment I knew I won it all was when I got to one of the zones that played in my favor,” he later said on ESPN. “I pretty much just had a big smile on my face because I knew with the potential I have I can bring it home.”  It was the first ever Annual Fortnite World Cup Championship. YouTuber and Pro gamer, Bugha walking away with $3 million had made him the talk of the town. He continued to play all tournaments and World Cups on Fortnite to improve his skills. Today he is one of the top Fortnite streamers on Twitch and is estimated to be worth around $4 million.

Fortnite has become an international sensation, making Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney a billionaire. While the Save the World and Creative versions have been successful for Epic Games, Fortnite Battle Royale in particular became a resounding success – drawing in more than 125 million players in less than a year, earning hundreds of millions of dollars per month, and becoming a cultural phenomenon.
