Doug Polk Patches Up With Long Time Rival Daniel Negreanu

Long-time rivals, Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk have finally made peace after almost seven years of bickering. All it took was a heads-up challenge and 25,000 hands for them to finally realize that they were not so different after all.

The feud between the two poker players started in 2014 when Negreanu claimed that he could easily win $25/$50 No-Limit Hold’em 6-max online games after studying it only for a few weeks. This annoyed Polk who thought that Negreanu was being disrespectful towards the players who worked hard to perfect their skills.

The years that followed saw Polk verbally attacking the former PokerStars ambassador on various issues. Another claim made by Negreanu where he stated that PokerStars increased rake was good for the game as a whole, was also mocked by Polk. How? Well, he put up a billboard right outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas with the words ‘More Rake Is Better’ during the 2018 WSOP.

But Negreanu’s reaction to Polk was relatively respectable as he rarely attacked him publicly and chose to ignore the insults. The heads-up match between the two was the result of a challenge half-jokingly thrown by the Upswing Poker founder which Negreanu promptly accepted.

The much-anticipated match was held on WSOP.com and consisted of 35 sessions which totaled up to 23,282 hands at $200/$400 stakes. Polk was in the lead with $900,000 and with only 1,718 hands left it was clear as to who the winner was. But through all this, Polk had a new-found respect for his rival.

It looked like the two had patched-up after Negreanu shared a tweet about him and Polk discussing hand histories and stories of their most recent match. This friendly reaction surprised many fans who were expecting at least some insults to be hurled but all’s well that ends well, we suppose.
