Doug Polk uploads final poker video

One of the popular figures in the poker community, Doug Polk waved goodbye to poker world in 2018 and now it is time for his YouTube poker channel. The former poker pro uploaded a 15-minutes video announcing his change in direction, titling it as ‘This is my final poker video’ where he talks about his future plans and his personal life.

With over $9.45 million in total live earnings, Polk has lost his passion for poker. He who ran a YouTube channel with 286,000 subscribers announced his retirement on Monday from the poker content world. The three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner used to put down poker strategy and explore hand histories and other poker related topics.

Polk hasn’t played since the 2019 WSOP Main Event. He admitted in his video that he struck his stack in the event because his heart was no longer in the game, that he no longer had interest in playing poker. “My heart’s not in it anymore,” he said. “I just don’t like poker anymore. I’m sorry to say that. I really feel like I’m done.”

Polk shared the video on his Twitter account too saying it has been a “hell of a ride”, thanking all his viewers for their constant support. The United State’s poker pro also said that the only reason he took part in WSOP 2019 was to keep his fans happy. Making and creating poker content is not the direction he wants to travel anymore. He added, “I kept doing it because I wanted to make something, and also because I had that dumb prop bet with Joey (Ingram) where I had to jump out of a plane if I didn’t make 80 videos.” Polk was ultimately successful with this bet.

The founder of Upswing Poker has the second largest poker YouTube channel. The only poker channel with more followers is run by his arch-nemesis, Daniel Negreanu, who has 391,000 subscribers.

Polk might have fallen out of love but hasn’t lost his appreciation for the times he spent playing poker. At the top of the list was the time he bested Sulsky in their heads-up challenge. “I made it from nothing to beating the No. 1 guy in something in the world because I spent so much time working hard at it,” he said.

He confesses that creating content isn’t worth it anymore for him. “It takes time, and if your heart’s not it in, it’s brutal.” Polk said that at some point, you have to throw in the towel, and he did that.

Well, Polk’s future plans is to continue making videos on a new channel that will have nothing to do with poker. He hopes to tackle mainstream topics and be able to make personal stuff if it feels relevant for him such as video-game related content. He already has 17 videos uploaded to his channel and 26,000 subscribers so far. Some of the topics he spoke about concern the coronavirus pandemic, US President Donald Trump, and the Democratic presidential nomination race.
