Did Daniel Negreanu Just Call Poker A Game Of Mistakes?

Daniel Negreanu is known for being vocal about his thoughts on social media. This time around, he has made a somewhat controversial statement, saying, “Poker is a game of mistakes.”

He recently posted a tweet wherein he wrote, “Just speaking for myself here, but I know my poker game is in a good place when I obsess over relatively small mistakes, and they are few and far between. Poker is a game of mistakes. Like golf, when pros attack the pin from 100 yards out, they are trying to make it but rarely do. Their misses or ‘mistakes’ still leave them close to the hole. The goal in both, IMO, is to minimize inevitable mistakes and avoid the big ones. The better you get, the more mistakes become more subtle and intricate.”

Just speaking for myself here, but I know my poker game is in a good place when I obsess over relatively small mistakes and they are few and far between.

DNegs tried to put forth the fact that mistakes are inevitable in the game of poker, whether it is a newbie or a pro player like him. But he mentions that these mistakes should be ‘relatively small mistakes’ and not frequent.

He further explains through an example of playing golf. He says that when professional golfers attack the pin from 100 yards, they try to make it; however, they rarely manage to get the perfect outcomes, but still their misses / mistakes leave them closer to the end goal.

The post received a lot of replies and reactions from users. One user said that she has always tried to live by this motto, to which the six-time World Series of Poker  (WSOP) bracelet winner shared that his entire ‘small ball’ strategy is built on this concept. “Give up marginal +EV spots to avoid ruin,” he wrote.
