APPT Manila 2022: Gaurav Sood Ships Deepstack Event!

It looks like the Philippines is the next stop in the Indian contingent’s poker journey around the world. Players are flocking to Manila, Philippines, to grind in PokerStars LIVE poker room at the Okada Manila casino. Why? For the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila series, of course! The series is back after a three-year break and will run from 29^th July to 7^th August. The best part? Indian poker pro Gaurav Sood has already clinched a live title!

Sood and a number of pros from team India like Shardul Parthasarathi, Abhinav Iyer, Ankit Wadhawan among others entered the APPT No Limit Hold’em (NLH) Deepstack event which began on 29^th July. The NLH Deepstack event has a buy-in of ₱50,000 and is the first of the 27 events scheduled to take place in the series. The Day 1 of the event recorded a total of 34 entries out of which 27 were unique players. The NLH Deepstack generated a final prize pool worth ₱1,632,510 (~$29,550) and only 10 players survived to Day 2.

At the start of Day 2, Sood had the fifth-highest chip stack. He continued to build his stack and finally reached heads-up against WSOP bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer. The two battled and in the end, Sood took home the victory title, an APPT trophy, and the biggest share of the prize pool worth ₱555,000. Iyer finished in the runner-up position for ₱383,700.

The Indian team was elated at Sood’s win, and some even took to social media to share it.
