APPT Manila 2022: Akshay Nasa Wins, Dhaval Mudgal Makes His First Cash


The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila 2022 is raging on with Indian poker players grinding in the poker room in the popular Okada Manila. The series has already seen poker pro Gaurav Sood clinch a title in the Deepstack event for ₱555,000. Now, Akshay Nasa has brought home another title after shipping Event #12 ₱100 NHL Shot Clock – Freezeout. Not just this, Dhaval Mudgal made his first cash of the series in Event #11 SuperDeep.

Nasa emerged victorious from a player field of 19 entries and took home his first PokerStars LIVE title. He walked away with the top prize of ₱712,200 (~₹10.15 Lakh). Back in 2019, Nasa shipped the APT Vietnam Main Event (ME) and has had multiple deep runs in various South-Asian live poker events. In the recently concluded APT VSOP 2022, Hanoi, Nasa had four cashes and finished in fourth place for VND 312,850,000 (~₹10.66 Lakh).

The SuperDeep was a No-Limit Hold’em event with a buy-in of ₱15,000. Players began with a starting stack of 30,000 chips. After a long grind, Mudgal made his way to the final table, beating a total of 79 entries in the process. He finished in third place and made his first cash of the series. He took home ₱129,500 (~₹1.85 Lakhs) for his effort and posted on social media to announce his win.

The event was shipped by Clyde Morales from the Philippines for ₱278,000. In the same event, Siddarth Singhvi finished in the 11th position for ₱25,300 (~₹36,036). This is Singhvi’s second cash of the series after he finished in fourth place at Event #7 – ₱15K Knockout for ₱70,100 (~₹1 Lakh).

The APPT National with its ₱35,000 buy-in is one of the feature tournaments of the day. The event’s Day 1B starting flight welcomed a total of 273 entries out of which 61 players survived to Day 2. The event generated a final prize pool of ₱12,435,885 and with the 134 entries from Day 1A, Day 2 will see a total of 407 entries compete for a piece of the prize pool. However, only the top 55 places will be played.

At the end of Day 1B, Deepak Bothra had the biggest stack (466,500 chips). Player Ludovic Soleau has the second highest stack of 325,000 chips. Other Indians who made it to Day 2 from Day 1B are APT Hanoi Loyal 2022 ME winner Shardul Parathasarathi (89,000) and Laksh Pal Singh (63,500). In total there are nine Indians who made it to Day 2. Sameer Agarwal (268,500), Dhanesh Chainani (180,000), Jasven Saigal (100,000), Dhaval Mudgal (99,000), Gaurav Sood (89,500), and Ankit Wadhawan (74,500) made it from Day 1A.
