Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering recently wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi stating that Battlegrounds Mobile India is just an avatar of PUBG and is aimed at deceiving the Indian government and the citizens.
PUBG mobile was banned in India back in September 2020 under section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The game was banned over privacy and national security reasons. Following the ban, Krafton had taken away all the Indian publishing and distribution rights from China- based distributor Tencent Games. The distributor continues to stay on as a publisher and distributor for several other countries barring India.
Since the game was banned, Krafton has been trying all possible ways to get the game back to the Indian audiences. Previously, the developer had announced that it was working on a special version of the game for the Indian audiences named PUBG Mobile India, however, it did not work out. Recently the developer announced the launch of the game by rebranding it as Battlegrounds Mobile India. The company also started pre-registrations for the new variant. However the launch date is yet to be announced.

Ahead of the launch, IGN spotted a tweet from former Union Minister and current MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering. In the tweet the MLA has shared a three-page letter he wrote to the PM, requesting him to ban Battlegrounds Mobile India too. He refers to the game as a relaunch of PUBG Mobile under a different name to deceive the country.
Requested @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji to not allow Chinese deception #BattlegroundsMobileIndia. It is a big threat to security of India & privacy of our citizens and a way to circumvent & disregard our laws.@AmitShah #IndiaBanBattlegrounds #NationFirst #AatmaNirbharBharat @ANI pic.twitter.com/H8nzUJ4aRk

The MLA of Pasighat in his letter says, “This is a mere illusion and a trick to relaunch the same game with minor modifications and collect user data of millions of our citizens, including our children and transfer it to foreign companies and the Chinese government.”
Ering reportedly stated that Krafton’s India employees are a part of Tencent and that the newly announced game’s description mentions PUBG on the PlayStore. He also claimed that the investment made by Krafton in Nodwin Gaming is a security concern, since Krafton is still associated with Tencent.

Ering says that by renaming the game Tencent is indirectly trying to enter India and seize the data of the Indian citizens. He claims that although the privacy policy states that the data will be stored locally in India and Singapore, it would be transferred to other countries for operation and legal purposes.
