WSOP 2022 Poker Hall Of Fame Nominee: Michael Mizrachi


The Poker Hall of Fame (PHOF) is considered to be the most prominent poker award that a player can receive. Every year, the Poker Hall of Fame inducts one poker player into its exclusive club. This year, the list of nominees was released which has names of some well-known personalities from the circuit. As of last year, 60 players have been inducted into the club.

Among the list of nominees for the WSOP 2022 Poker Hall of Fame, we have poker professional Michael Mizrachi. In this article, we’ll be diving into the reason why Mizrachi was nominated for this highly sought-after poker award. In order to do so, we’ll be looking into his list of achievements and wins. So, here’s all about this, five-time bracelet winner.

Who is Michael Mizrachi?

Mizrachi was born in Miami, Florida and is among the most recognizable poker professionals in the world. He is the younger brother of Robert Mizrachi who is also a professional poker player with two WSOP bracelets to his name. Mizrachi also has a twin brother, Daniel Jay Mizrachi who is a professional DJ. From a young age, Michael Mizrachi wanted to be a doctor but dropped out of college to pursue a career as a professional poker player. He is also known by his famous nickname called ‘The Grinder’ in the poker community.

Interested in the game since his college days, Mizrachi won his first WSOP bracelet in 2010 when he shipped the $50,000 The Poker Player’s Championship for $1,559,046. He defeated Russian banker and poker pro Vladimir Shchemelev to claim the title. His second WSOP bracelet came the following year in 2011 at WSOP Europe. He shipped the €10,400 No-Limit Hold’em (Split Format) for €336,008.

In 2010 when he shipped his first WSOP bracelet, Mizrachi also made it to the November Nine in the Main Event, where he finished 5th for a whopping $2,332,992. Mizrachi’s poker run in 2010 was such a success that ESPN poker announcer Norman Chad called it ‘The Year of the Grinder.’

Before he clinched his first bracelet, Mizrachi tied the record of seven in the money finish in a single year in WSOP 2005. In WSOP 2008, he finished third in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship. Mizrachi is most well-known for clinching the WSOP Poker Players Championship bracelet three times. The first was in 2010, his second Poker Players Championship bracelet was won in 2012. This made him the event’s first two-time champion in the process. He won the bracelet again in 2018. He won his fifth and latest bracelet in WSOP 2019 when he shipped the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better for $142,801.

He also finished fifth at the 2005 World Poker Tour (WPT) World Poker Open where he played with poker legends Daniel Negreanu and Scotty Nguyen. Mizrachi won the first place prize worth $1,859,909 at the L.A Poker Classic in the following month. The American pro also played in the second season of the popular cash game show called High Stakes Poker.

In 2006, the five-time WSOP bracelet winner won the CardPlayer Magazine’s Player of the Year award. In 2010, Mizrachi was awarded Poker Player of the Year by ALL In Magazine. PHOF was founded in 1979 by Benny Binion, the owner of the Horseshoe Casino, to make sure the world’s greatest talent is recognised and brought to the fore. The winner for the 2022 PHOF will be announced on 10th July 2022, alongside the final table of the WSOP 2022 Main Event at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
