Combining the thrill of magic and mayhem, the Path of Exile video game is infusing its fantasy world with bigger and better updates in the upcoming Path of Exile 2. The game falls in the action role-playing genre and was first released in 2013 by Grinding Gear Games. Upon release the game was considered one of the best in the genre and even won the 2013 PC Game of the Year award by GameSpot and the best PC role-playing game of that year by IGN.
Over 5 Million players registered by February 2014 and that number has been growing ever since. The game has managed to hold its spot, constantly evolving with new expansions being added in year after year. In 2019, Grinding Gear Games dropped the biggest news at ExileCon with the announcement of sequel: Path of Exile 2 which is slated for a 2022 release.
Even though fans have to wait for an entire year to finally play it, Grinding Gear Games gave them a taste of what’s to come in a live-stream held just this Thursday. They revealed the trailer and an extended gameplay section before jumping into a Q&A session. Here’s what we can expect from this highly anticipated launch.
While the trailer was only two minutes long it did give a glimpse into the new location – the Vastiri Desert. This is the second major location in the game after the first one was revealed in 2019 at ExileCon called the Island of Ogham.
The game’s walkthrough revealed two new additions that players can add to their armory – spears and crossbows. But these are not just ordinary weapons put into the game, each comes with an intrinsic skill of its own. This means that players will be able to use special attack modes that are unique to each one. For example, the crossbow has the ability to change to different bolts depending on the requirements while fighting. The spear too has a Whirling Slash ability which can create a storm close to the player and explodes when the player leaves it. For more details watch the walkthrough below.
What’s a game without a worthy opponent? The Path of Exile 2 boasts of better mini bosses with interesting fight abilities. The upgrade gives players a little more challenge, making the game more enjoyable and fun to play.
A big thing that players will immediately notice about Path of Exile 2 is its animation and graphics. As shown, the game has drastically improved the game’s visual feel, allowing the players to immerse themselves in the experience. Even the enemy groups in the game have better function and an even more unique AI.
The best part about the sequel is that it will not replace the original campaign of the game, allowing players to move to a new story with their old accounts and characters. The new game will exist within the same client as the first one, giving players the freedom to move between both campaigns. The two campaigns will then converge into a shared endgame called the Path of Exile: Ultimatum which will launch on 6 April.
With so much in store for gamers, it’s not surprising that many are eagerly looking forward to the game’s release. Especially after taking a glimpse into the new world. While the game still has a long road ahead in terms of development, the studio assured that the production path of the game is going on well. The expectations are riding high with one, so fingers are crossed that it will deliver.
