Doug Polk stole the limelight with his antics in World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2023 at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The American pro had reached the semifinal stage of the $25,000-entry Heads Up Championship, where he clashed against Chris Brewer. Polk and Brewer, alongside Sean Winter and Chanracy Khun, were the final four players who stood a chance to grab a WSOP bracelet at the event.
The action was red hot at WSOP 2023 Day 5 during the $25,000-entry Heads Up Championship. It is one of the flagship events at WSOP that had $507,000 as the top prize this year. Polk and Brewer locked horns in the semifinals of the event. One of their clashes during the heads up match caught the eye of the poker fraternity as Polk spiked a miraculous two-outer on the river.
Brewer had 2,460,000 to his name while Polk sat with 2,340,000 in his stack. The hand started off with the Upswing Poker founder raising to 45,000 on the button and Brewer going for a 3-bet to 180,000 from the big blind position. Doug Polk didn’t shy away from the bet and decided to respond with a 4-bet to 490,000.

Brewer, too, came in hot and decided to take a minute before shoving all in. Polk snapped for the smaller stack, and the cards were now open faced. Both the players had great cards, as Polk trusted his queens while Brewer was backed by his Cowboys. The excitement before the flop created a tense atmosphere as the pot value sat at $4,680,000.
The flop came 6 ♠, 8 ❤ , 5 ♣, which saw Brewer continue boasting a dominating lead, citing his superior pocket kings. The 5 ♠ on the turn saw Polk left with just two outs. However, the poker gods decide to bless Doug Polk as the Q ♦ opens up on the river, to Polk’s delight. Yes, the three-time WSOP bracelet winner hits two outer and makes a full house.
The 34-year-old erupted in joy before doing a double lap and giving high fives to everyone who witnessed his victory in this crucial hand. He also collected a massive double-up and left Brewer with just a few big blinds left to spare.

Later on, Brewer was eliminated in 3rd place while Polk locked horns against Chanracy Khun in the final round. However, poker gods didn’t support Doug Polk this time around, who had to settle for second place in the $25,000-entry Heads Up Championship. While Polk walked away with $313,362, Khun pocketed $507,020 alongside the much-glorified bracelet. It remains interesting to see how the action continues to unfold at WSOP 2023!
