While new games are released every year, there are some games that have managed to stick with us. Keeping this in mind, there are video games that have spawned franchises solely due to the immense success of the first game. We’re not saying that other games in these franchises are not good, but just that they will never be as good as the first one. So here are our picks.
With a debut dating all the way back to the arcades in 1978, Space Invaders became a pop-culture icon of the 80s. The popular game was released for consoles in 1980 and while many studios have tried to replicate its formula, the first game in the franchise remains unbeatable.

Iconic in every way, Pac-Man was one of the few games that managed to impact the gaming industry in a big way. There was a moment in time when the majority of the gaming industry rested on this game. But while other games like Pac-In-Time and Pac-Man World were released successfully none of them could match the success of the original.
Who knew that a game with a blue hedgehog would do so well but here we are. Sonic the Hedgehog took the world by surprise when it was first released in 1991 by Sega. There have been countless versions of the game since then but nothing beats the magic of the first one.
Released in 1984, Tetris was a block game with a concept so simple that its enormous success is still a thing of wonder. While the game has many forms now and available in many devices across the board, it is still the original gameplay that remains unchanged and unbeaten.

While Bioshock is a more modern video game than the others on the list, there is no denying that the first game was its best. It was released in 2007 and immediately captured the heart of players with its gameplay. There have been other games that are good in this franchise like Bioshock Infinite, however, nothing has yet topped the original.
