Uday Mondal Spills The Beans About His Victories As A Gutshot Player

India’s well-known online poker platform Calling Station has announced its Player of the Year for 2021. Uday Mondal, aka ‘Darinda’ is one of the star players who played more than 1,500 events and has been crowned as Calling Station’s Player of the Year. This player started grinding 5-6 years ago and has turned into a fine poker player. 

Talking about his poker journey, Mondal says that he started grinding on platforms like Star poker, Khelo 365 by trying his hand at freerolls, and more. He started progressing and today has 500 in the money (ITM) finishes. So far, Mondal’s biggest cash was in the ₹10 Lakh GTD event where he earned ₹1,42,500 in prize money. Hailing from Kolkata, this player has more than ₹30 Lakh in online poker winnings. Talking about his victories and how his journey so far, Mondal adds, “Initially, I aimed at making it in the money; only now have I progressed to a stage where I aim for the top prizes.” 

We also quizzed this full-time poker player on how he approaches the game when on the final table (FT), his go-to strategies, among other things. Mondal says, “I keep telling myself that I have to get through bad beats. I keep reminding myself that the aim is to win and not let it affect my mindset. I do not have any particular strategies while grinding on an FT; my gameplay is usually dependent on how my opponents choose to grind.”

We asked him about how the game empowers him and here’s what he added, “Poker is very helpful, and although the prize money is huge I feel that the game comes in handy anytime when in need.” Mondal started out by playing on several small-scale platforms, and today he is a very big fan of Calling Station. I mainly love this platform because of the high-value tournaments it hosts. He further added that he was super excited about being nominated as Calling Station’s player of the year. He said, “My winnings have tripled in the course of my time at Calling Station. I look at grinding and winning even more.”  

In the course of time, poker players have a lot of fans from the industry. In the same way, Mondal absolutely loves Daniel Negreanu’s game on the international front, and from the Indian circuit, he loves Nikita Luther’s game. He reminds us of the time when he used to watch the streams of these players very frequently. 

This ambitious player sure has some poker goals.
