The Venetian is among the many other casinos on the Las Vegas strip that have taken extreme precautions to provide its customers a carefree experience while playing poker. On 7 September, The Venetian kicked off its ‘DeepStack Showdown’ the first live tournament series this week.
This series is the first live tournament series in Las Vegas since the lockdown due to coronavirus. The “DeepStack Showdown” series at their Poker room is spread across 32 events. Featuring $400,000 in total guarantees, the series will run until 27 September. During the opening day, the first event had a $10,000 guarantee. The $250 buy-in No Limit Hold’em SuperStack attracted 268 players, generating $54,940 in total prize pool.
The casino is among the first poker rooms on the Las Vegas strip to reopen on 5 June itself. Initially, they got back with reduced hours, limited capacity and offered only cash games and no tournaments. This was done in compliance with the guidelines set by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB). With basic casino etiquettes already prevalent, they have also been recycling masks in order to reduce the waste generated due to Covid-19.
We are proud to be one the first resorts in the nation to recycle face masks. We divert all discarded face masks from other waste sent to landfills through our trash-sorting initiative. Gradually, the Venetian poker room offered tournament-style games by hosting single-table sit-n-gos, and later shootout events, making it the first poker room in the city to offer multi-table tournaments. Tommy LaRosa, the tournament director, said, “The venue is well-prepared and is equipped with hand sanitizer stations and plexiglass dividers installed at each table to ensure strict social distancing. Chips, cards, tables, and chairs are sanitized regularly, and wearing face mask is mandatory. We are still gaining support from players. Everything is still subject to adjustments, according to the level of participation.”
They are enforcing these measures to provide a safe avenue for players. They form part of the ‘Venetian Clean Commitment’ announced by the Venetian Resort Las Vegas back in June itself. The newest edition of the Deepstack Showdown offers lower guarantees compared to tournaments before the COVID-19 lockdown. The strong desire of poker players to play gives us the hope that we can look forward to all the casinos in Las Vegas opening up at the earliest.
