It’s Official! PUBG Mobile Returns To India With A New Name

After months of speculations and leaked reports, game developers Krafton officially announced the new name for PUBG Mobile. The popular battle royale game will once again step foot into the Indian gaming space with the name Battlegrounds Mobile India.

In a statement published on the Battlegrounds Mobile India website, the game will also come with exclusive in-game items like outfits, features. The game also will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues and will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices.

Fans were thrilled with the news and many took to their Twitter handles to react to the news. Here are some of their hilarious responses.

Back in September 2020, the government of India had banned all Chinese apps which included PUBG Mobile and the social media app Tik Tok due to security concerns. Soon after the ban, many speculated that the game would return to India but nothing was set in stone.

Now, after eight months of waiting, gamers can once again play the game which has now been customized for the Indian audience. The dates for pre-registration for Battlegrounds Mobile India will be announced soon. While the launch dates have not been released yet, this official confirmation from Krafton means that the wait won’t be too long.

As per the reports, Battlegrounds Mobile India will be available only in India. Data privacy and security are now Krafton’s top priority. “All data collection and storage will be in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in India and for players here,” the release states.

Since PUBG was one of the top mobile games in the country, its exit from the market also affected many professional esports players that specialized in the game. Its return could definitely boost the Indian esports industry further.

Lokesh Suji, Director of the Esports Federation of India (ESFI), commented, “It’s good to see that Krafton has considered the Indian requirements and has modified the game. This will surely fuel the Indian esports ecosystem. Krafton has already taken positive initiatives in the Indian market in the last few months which is very heartening to see and also highlights the capability of the esports ecosystem in India.”

“We request other game developers as well to follow a similar model and customise India specific games thereby creating more value for the Indian esports community and encourage the local gamers and esports athletes to take this sport as a viable career option. As a federation, we have always supported and encouraged any initiative which has India at the core with the possibility to become a powerhouse in esports. We also urge and hope that Indian gaming developers will also follow suit and come up with more esports titles that will fuel and strengthen the esports ecosystem in India,” he further added.

Tarun Gupta founder of Ultimate Battle said, “Krafton has been very active in the Indian market recently which was an indication that the PUBG Mobile variant may soon see the daylight in India. At Ultimate Battle, we are excited to hear about this and will be adding Battlegrounds India on the platform as soon as it launches. We forecast to see the downloads cross the 1 million plus mark in the first week of the launch.”

We believe this time it is not just a game but it’s an opportunity for the whole gaming community to grow and increase their brand value in the industry. The game will be a huge step towards the successful future of esports in India.”

“We believe the content creators community will get a major boost once the game is launched and it will fuel our ambition of creating a unique ecosystem for the gaming content creators to make a serious career out of their passion,” said Shivam Rao, co-founder of Trinity Gaming.

Even after all this time, PUBG Mobile has continued to maintain its charm among the Indian audience. With so many looking forward to its re-entry, it may even reclaim its throne as the top mobile game in India.
