From being the heads-up chip lead to becoming the winner Shung Er Sua has indeed come a long way. The newly crowned APT Summer Series, Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 SHR winner takes home a pay cheque of VND 1,922,930,000 (~USD 82,700). The Malaysia-born Taiwanese player chipped up quite well in the game and never let that shiny APT trophy out of sight. The 29-year-old from Penang who now resides in Tainan had also won a Single Day High Roller tourney at APT Incheon last year. Congratulations to the new champion.

Xiaosheng Zheng finished second in the APT Summer Series, Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 for VND 1,390,920,000 (~$59,800). Take a look at how the final hand of the game unfolded. From the small blind Shung Er Sua shoved and Xiaosheng Zheng threw in his tournament life. Sua was playing with K♠ J♥ while Zheng had non-monster hole cards of 3♣ 6♠. Zheng was terribly short-stacked and had just three big blinds. The dealer fanned a flop of 5♥ 9♠ A♦. Zheng had to pair with the board to survive. Shung Er Sua who had a commanding lead when heads-up began on Level 22 has now added some more chips to his stack and his opponent is feeling the pressure. Sua opened with 350,000 and his rival Xiaosheng Zheng called. 9♦ A♣ 3♥ came on the flop and Zheng check-called a bet of 225,000 from his rival.

The turn had Q♣ which was checked by Zheng; Sua bet 850,000 and Zheng matched. The river came in the form of T♠. Sua fired 1,400,000 and his opponent was seen making use of a time-extension chip. Zheng called. Sua was quick to table Q♠ 3♠ for two pairs; Zheng mucked his hand.

APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 SHR now has its heads-up rivals in Xiaosheng Zheng and Shung Er Sua. The Super High Roller which was a single day event will see its winner in some time. Dinh Tien Thanh Finishes 3rd Place For VND 897,370,000 (~$38,600)

Dinh Tien Thanh exited the SHR tourney in 3rd place for VND 897,370,000 (~$38,600). From the small blind Shung Er Sua shoved all in. Thanh quickly called from the small blind position. Sua had A♦ 9♥ and Thanh played with A♣ 4♣. 8♦ T♣ 3♦ 7♠ 2♠ gave Thanh no help and he exited at the 3rd spot for VND 897,370,000 (~$38,600). Heads-up is now set between the final two players.

Lev Kydatov Takes The 4th Spot For VND 679,430,000 (~USD 29,220)

Level 21, Blinds 50K/10K, ante 10K

Lev Kydatov is out in the 4th place for a payday of VND 679,430,000 (~USD 29,220). The Russian player was first to act, but also tanked for a while and then committed all his chips. When action folded to the big blind player (China’s Xiaoshung Zheng), he made the call. Kydatov cards read 9♥ 6♥ while Zheng showed 4♣ 4♠. The community cards fell K♣ Q♠ Q♦, which gave some jitters to Zheng as there was a chance that his pocket pair could be rendered useless. The turn brought 2♠ and the river revealedd 7♠. Zheng’s fours did the trick and Kydatov finished 4th for VND 679,430,000 (~USD 29,220). Three-handed game began with all three guaranteed VND 897,370,000 (~USD 38,600).

Jhon Hendri was knocked out in the 5th place. He had a payday of VND 525,600,000 (~$22,600). Shung Er Sua opened with 200,000. Hendri defended his big blind. An all-heart flop opened: 9♥ T♥ Q♥. Hendri checked his option. Sua threw in 150,000 which Hendri called. Once again Hendri checked the turn of K♦; Sua fired another bullet worth 400,000. Indonesia’s Hendri did a check-raise of 1,400,000. This left Hendri with just 500,000 chips. Sua showed an aggressive move when he went all-in and action folded back to Hendri. Both the players had some words exchanged which added more fuel to the fire. “Maybe we chop,” said Hendri and Sua hit back saying “Or maybe you’re dead.” Hendri went in the tank mode but eventually made the call. Sua had A♥ J♠ Hendri showed Q♦ J♦. Hendri realised there was no chance of a chop and he badly needed an Ace to stay afloat. But a river of 4♣ appeared and it was game over. Hendri finished 5th for a payday of VND 525,600,000 (~$22,600). Sua runs hot and has boasts of over 10,000,000 chips.

Joshua Mccully Leaves The Game In 7th Place For VND 326,900,000

Joshua Mccully was eliminated in 7th place for VND 326,900,000 (~$14,050). Mccully opened with 600,000 pre-flop. Xiaosheng Zheng shoved all-in which covered the Australia native’s stack. Mccully threw a single chip into the pot to signify a call. The cards were turned over Mccully hd A♥ Q♠ and Zheng the Big Slick (A♠ K♣). 5♥ T♠ Q♦ on the flop gave Mccully Q-pair but the turn brought J♦ which completed Zheng’s straight (A-T). The 8♣ on the river was inconsequential and Mccully got up from his seat and left the game.

Van Tan Dong Finishes 6th For VND 410,220,000 (~USD 17,650)

Eliminations continued in the APT Summer Series, Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 SHR. This time it was Van Tan Dong who was out in the 6th place for a payday of VND 410,220,000 (~USD 17,650). The young Vietnamese player raised to 850,000 from the highjack spot leaving less than 100,000 chips in his stack. The cutoff had Indonesia’s Jhon Hendri making use of a time bank. He then jammed his tournament life and saw Dong matching the bet. Hendri showed A♦ 8♠ while Dong revealed K♠ J♠. The board ran rout as T♣ 7♣ 3♣ 3♦ 7♦. The Ace kicker helped Hendri survive and Dong drowned all the way. There are five players left in the coveted event and every player is now guaranteed a sum of VND 525,600,000 (~USD 22,600).

Thanh Crowns Shih As Bubble Boy!

Dinh Tien Thanh opened with 125,000; King Lun Shih shoved for a bit over 500,000. Thanh then took a few seconds and called. This move put Shih at risk of bubbling SHR event. Shih was playing A♥ J♥, Thanh had A♦ Q♣. Shih was behind in a risky spot and the entire table rooted for a Queen. The flop of A♣ Q♦ 3♣ gave  Thanh hits the top two pairs (AA, QQ). Shih needed a runner-runner to survive the game. Sadly the turn of K♣ gave Thanh a flush draw while Shih’s hopes for a straight were also up. The river of Tc handed a flush to Thanh and despite rivering a straight Shih had bubbled the event with no money to show for his efforts.

World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Alex Lindrop enters the SHR and the prize pool of the game has hit the VND 5 Billion mark. England’s Lindrop becomes the 43rd entry in the much awaited game. The top place finisher gets the biggest piece and the competition is only getting more intense.

Nishant Sharma’s Sick River Call Stuns Rival

Level 4, Blinds: 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Nam Hai Hoang lost most of his chips to France’s Jerome Finck in an earlier pot. Hoang’s next move was to shove. He shoved his chips in a raised pot with Indian pro Nishant Sharma. The Gamezy Poker pro opened from the highjack spot; Hiroki Takezaki of Japan made the call. Hoang 3-bet shoved when the action circled to him. Sharma then went for the 4-bet route and raised to 35,000 which was called by Takezaki.

There was a side pot brewing and things got heated. Dealer fanned out T♦ 5♣ 3♦ and Takezaki checked his option. Sharma threw 40,000 chips and found a caller. The turn revealed 9♥ and both players checked their options. 5♠ came on the river and Sharma checked. Takezaki threw 75,000 in the pot and a call came from Sharma. Hoang tabled A♣ Jc; while Sharma showed A♠ Kd and Takezaki turned over K♣ Q♣.

Kim checked and Tumboli continued his firing; Kim matched. 3♦ came on the turn as Kim check-called the bet made by Tumboli. The river brought 9♣ which gave Tumboli two pairs (KK, 99). Kim checked again and Tumboli threw 20,000 into the pot. Kim made use of a one time bank card and matched that bet. Tumboli showed his Cowboys (K♥ K♠) and Kim shook his head and mucked.

Nishant Sharma Scoops A Pot Like A Pro

At Level 1, Blinds: 500/1,000, ante 1,000, Jerome Finck of France raised preflop; India’s Nishant Sharma made the call. The flop came T♣ 9♠ 5♦. Finck barreled again and his rival Sharma matched the bet. The turn (5♠) was a repeat telecast of the flop in terms of action.

The river revealed Q♠ and Finck checked. Sharma then fired 28,500 chips into the pot. Finck didn’t even bother to think and quickly folded before. Sharma nailed the pot hook, line and sinker.

Welcome to the live updates of the Super High Roller at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Summer Series Hanoi, 2023. The much awaited live series kicked-off amid rising excitement among the player community. Gutshot Magazine will be covering the live updates for three marquee tournaments, namely Super High Roller, Main Event and High Roller. Today is Day 1 of the highly-anticipated APT Summer Series Hanoi 2023 APT Super High Roller – 8 Max. 

This event has a buy-in of With a guaranteed prize pool of VND2,000,000,000 (~US$86,000) the opening day of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Super High Roller is indeed among the highlights in the vast event calendar for this series and it kicks off today (27th May) at exactly 1:30PM (UCT+7) at the Grand Loyal Poker Club here.

This one-day event has a buy-in of VND 120,000,000 and offers a colossal advertised guarantee of  VND120,000,000 (~US$5,100). Late registration will conclude at the end of Level 10 or 8:55 PM. The starting stack in this SHR event is 250,000 with levels lasting for 40 minutes. The opening blinds are 500/1,000 (BBA 1,000). 

Previously, England’s Sam Lam shipped the SHR event and took home TWD 3,997,400 (~US$130,000). This top score was Lam’s second live cash.
