Hello poker lovers! We are back with a poker term that will help you understand the game better along with getting acquainted with the strategies of the game. You must have heard the term trap quite often but do you know what a trap means in poker?
Traps in poker means playing slowly, which can be done by checking, or by playing passively with a very strong hand to trick other players into betting and thinking that they will win the pot. Such players usually underbet a strong hand to create a larger pot. Let’s take a few examples of how you can avoid poker traps.
In Texas Hold’em poker one must know how to hold a big pair and be able to stand up against the other kickers on a table.
Along with the Estimated Value (EV) statistics, players in the big blind and small blind positions do not fare very well. Players who are in this position, usually suffer from a syndrome of being dragged into a pot that they were otherwise not gunning for.
Among the greatest qualities of a poker player, one of them is to lay down a strong hand. Most newbies or recreational players will refuse to fold a strong hand even when the game is not in their favour. For example, in a no-limit game, a player opts for an enormous raise with a pair, and top kicker then it could be worth dropping.

A classic beginner’s mistake is to have an ace-high flush and not look at the possibility of a full house. When the opposite player has a full house, beginners will get absolutely devastated. So, players need to realize that if the game is getting intense, then they need to think more wisely.
Several new players who attempt to study the game have an understanding of pot odds and what type of hands to draw. However, players assume that they are getting correct odds when they really aren’t. This assumption makes the draws substantially worse. So, grinders need to pay utmost attention while drawing any hand.
Grinders, you need to look out for such instances which will probably save you from the traps in poker. But remember, that’s not all. There are many other instances like these that we will write about in the coming days.
