Poker newbies, don’t know where to begin? Well, when it comes to poker language or slang, knowing it all seems an uphill task. But don’t fret, we are here to help you learn them all (read: will help you master it) without breaking a sweat. You should first familiarize yourself with some cool and important poker terms. From tilt, under the gun, kicker, this time, we’ll take a look at the poker term called ‘Cowboys.’

What is Cowboys?

Poker is a game that is entirely dependent on the hand that a player has and understanding hand rankings thoroughly is crucial for any poker game. Cowboys is a nickname for pocket Kings in Hold’em. Pocket Kings is also called Ace Magnets, King Kong, Kangaroos etc. After Ace-Ace, this is considered to be one of the second-best hand in a game of poker. Pocket kings card combination is considered to brighten the future of players who have a sinking fortune in the game.

How to use the cowboys while playing?

Pocket Kings, being the second-best starting hand, is generally considered strong enough to stack off in the majority of preflop scenarios. However, there are a few exceptions too. The Pocket Kings come with an equity close to 75% during the pre-flop round and hence the hand of cowboy is considered to be one of the strongest pre-flop holdings in poker.

Since it is one of the strongest hands, players never fold this card, except when they are extremely sure that the opponent has Pocket Aces. Ideally, a player who has a cowboy would raise and re-raise the holding especially in the pre-flop stage. This aggressive game can continue before and after the pre-flop in order to get as many chips in the pot as possible.
