Poker Dictionary – Acey Deucey

Poker players usually have to learn and get themselves acquainted with the jargons used while grinding. With or without their knowledge each of them ends up becoming a true blue logophile. We’re helping you get acquainted with more quirky and fun terms, in order to become one of the close-knit folks from the industry. This time we will read about ‘Acey-Deucey.’ There are two meanings to this word. Now you might ask, don’t words like ‘grind,’ ‘turn,’ ‘river’ etc also have other meanings? Yes yes, they do. However, ‘Acey-deucey’ is a term used in poker and it is also a card game called ‘In-Between.’ 

Acey Deucey In Poker

In poker, this term is used when a player has a two-pair hand. If a player has hole cards of A Hearts, 2 Hearts, and the community cards also have an Ace and a 2 then it is referred to as ‘Acey-deucey.’ 

Card Game Acey Deucey 

This card game is also known as ‘backgammon’ and has been a people’s favourite since World War 1. In Acey-deucey, players are dealt two face-up cards and each of them is supposed to place their bet based on the outcome of the third card. Ideally, the third card is supposed to be a number that is between the two face-up cards.

If the third card ranks anywhere between the two cards that you were previously dealt with, you win and get your bet back to yourself along with an equal amount from the pot. But in case if the two cards are consecutive, such as a three and a four, then they are laid to one side, and the Dealer lays out another two cards for the player.  The last instance is when players get dealt pocket cards. In this, the player wins two chips and they are not dealt the third card.
