Pocket52 Poker Sports League Season 3 Virtual To Stream On Voot

The upcoming Poker Sports League Season 3 Virtual will be streaming on well-known OTT platform Voot. Voot is owned by Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd, has bagged the streaming rights for PSL Season 3 Virtual. Furthermore, poker brand Pocket52 has come on board as Poker Sports League’s (PSL) title sponsor.

Amit Burman, Chairman, Dabur India Ltd Chairman and co-founder of Mind Sports League said, “I trust that the audience of poker and Voot are well-aligned. The streaming platform already has an experience in hosting reality and gaming shows which makes it the perfect opportunity for us.”

PSL Season 3 Virtual has eight teams that will be battling it out from 18 January to 20 February. The eight teams are, namely, Gujarat Falcons, Mumbai Anchors, Goan Nuts, Deccan Aces, Bangalore Legends, Chennai Troopers, Delhi Czars, and Kolkata Kings. PSL’s campaign for the season 3 virtual has already begun on various social media platforms. Commenting about the partnership, Gourav Rakshit, chief operating officer of Viacom18 Digital Ventures said, “The imagination of the country is being captured by skill-based online games and as a platform which has a younger viewer base, we are lined up with these games. Poker offers enthusiasm and drama to the audience. On social media and digital platforms, we will be targeting poker groups to create more traffic for the league.”

He further added, “We wish to get as many people as possible to watch the tournament this year. With such collective efforts, and once it becomes a spectator show, there will be more monetization involved. We are entirely focusing on getting more reach and acquiring repeat viewers this season.”

Gutshot spoke to Debashish Bhattacharjee, Co-founder and CMO of Pocket52 to get more insights into their collaboration with Poker Sports League as a title sponsor. Here are the excerpts from the interview:

What were the reasons behind Pocket52 coming on board as title for Poker Sports League Season 3 Virtual?

Poker Sports League (PSL) is a great medium and we wanted to reach out to a mass audience who would register and play poker.

How does Pocket52 benefit from its association with PSL?

It’s been just two years that Pocket52 has been in the system and PSL is one of the largest poker platforms in the poker network. We believe that collaborating with PSL is a great way to grow the audience domestically in India for Pocket 52. PSL has been conducting this tournament consecutively for three years now. It’s a good thing as they are endorsing poker as a game of skill. There are various participants; it is strategically beneficial if we associate with PSL to create value for people. At the same time, Pocket52 wants to encourage and motivate the players who are participating in PSL.

Is Pocket52 looking at the association with PSL as a long term partnership?

PSL takes place once a year. The poker platform has Pocket52 as their title sponsor for the PSL Season 3 Virtual and if they find value in our partnership, they will take it forward as well.

Why did you choose an OTT platform like Voot?

OTT platforms have become very famous especially during the lockdown. Streaming PSL on an OTT platform is a first, where Poker Sports League powered by Pocket52 will reach the audience direct-to-home. There are a lot of impressions expected on all platforms and since Voot is an OTT player, audiences witness poker being played as a game of skill.

How will the PSL-Pocket52 partnership impact the industry?

Anything that is done in the poker circuit benefits the overall industry. Flagship events like PSL help in breaking away from the stigma that people have for the game and promotes it as a game of skill.
