Watching old videos when you beat or lose to some poker stalwarts is always nostalgic. One such video of Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey was shared by PokerGo on its Twitter handle.
The video sees the record-setting 17-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner playing with Dimes and Ivey had 86s. This video played out like a thriller when Hellmuth went all 007 on the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner. What happened? Keep reading further to know more.
The two poker dynamos locked horns in a hand which ended in Hellmuth fuming after he couldn’t insure his losses as Ivey refused to play ball to his demand.
Ivey raised $2,500 preflop; Hellmuth, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan called. The dealer fanned out a flop of Tc 9h 7h. This gave Ivey a straight and Hellmuth a set with his Tens.
Ivey pushed another $8,000. Hellmuth again called; Antonius and Dwan folded. Ivey did not seem like he was going to take it down and this was proved correct when he threw in another $23K after some thinking.
The Palo Alto resident after fiddling with his chips for a bit went all-in for $80,300. Ivey gladly made the call and the hole cards were revealed. Hellmuth did not waste any time and started asking for reverse insurance when he realised Ivey was winning hands down.
Other players like Daniel Negreanu, Antonius and Dwan joined the conversation which eventually turned fruitless for Hellmuth. The river card was 3s and that brought absolutely no help to Hellmuth who won his 17th bracelet in WSOP 2023. Ivey won the hand and his rival turned into a sour loser.

Hellmuth also reacted to his old video with Ivey. He wrote in his tweet, “One of many hand’s where @philivey “held over me” (for 15 years!), but I finally won a nice pot from him at @WSOP Final Table last month to somewhat even the score. Ivey is a great guy, and we have had, and will continue to have, some fierce battles!”
