Phil Hellmuth Defeats Tom Dwan In High Stakes Duel III

PokerGO’s High Stakes Duel III ended with Phil Hellmuth claiming his eighth victory out of the nine matches. The final round saw Hellmuth defeat his opponent Tom Dwan after what is known as a highly competitive heads-up match.

The third round saw a massive battle between the two legendary poker players. Hellmuth was ready to take his revenge on Dwan, after the latter defeated Hellmuth in round two of the match. After the match ended, the ‘Poker Brat’ was not shy to brag about his victory and said, “It feels good. Tom is just one of the greatest players in the world. I like to use the term ‘natural-born Hold’em player.’ I think there are about 10 natural-born Hold’em players in the world. I’m one of the 10, for sure. What do I have, 13 world championships in Hold’em or something? Plus, just 50 final tables in hold’em. So yeah, I’m one of them.”

Previously, Hellmuth had defeated Antonio Esfandiari, Daniel Negreanu, and Nick Wright. The match was held at the PokerGO Studios in ARIA, Las Vegas. Since Hellmuth had lost the previous round, he had to put in $200,000 to get back into the game.

When asked to rank his opponents, Hellmuth said, “They’re all tough. Antonio’s tough in his way. He puts a lot of pressure on you, a lot of heat on you. He talks a lot, rubs it in when things are going bad for you. So, you really have to struggle to stay level.” This was in reference to the time when he claimed victory in the High Stakes Duel against Esfandiari.

Regarding his match against Negreanu, he said, “And then Daniel, it was super measured. He’d ‘say here’s the chart how I’m going to beat you,’ all that b******t that I was incredibly insulted by. It was kind of mean of him to attack me like that. But Daniel’s f*****g tough as nails. If anyone wants to face Antonio and Daniel, I’ll bet on Antonio and Daniel.”

However, Phil Hellmuth won’t be able to cash his $400,000 win unless he plays another match even if Dwan declines for a rematch. Luckily for Hellmuth, Dwan immediately told his rival that there will be another re-match. For the next one, Dwan will have to pay $400,000 to enter the game. This will create an $800,000 pot.

Mori Eskandani, President of PokerGO said that he anticipates that round four will take place in late March or sometime in April, but the specific date is yet to be determined.
