Phil Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari to have heads-up rematch

The first match of PokerGo’s High stakes duel saw Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari taking on Phil ‘The Poker Brat’ Hellmuth in a live heads-up duel until the loser either doubles or quits when the stakes get too high. The opening match was a huge hit as it also had the new feature of ‘weigh-in’ The Weigh-in, section essentially featured smack talk from both players mostly culminating in legendary throwdowns.

Both players put up $50,000 for the first match. According to the rules of ‘High Stakes Duel,’ the loser had the option to challenge the winner to a rematch, increasing the prize pool from $100,000 to $200,000. Hellmuth won the first round to defeat Antonio Esfandiari, but he already called for a rematch. It has been scheduled and it will be released on 23 September. The Poker brat showed his skills while playing at the felts and pulled off some essential bluffs against ‘The Magician’.

The poker pro took just around two seconds to contemplate losing the game and immediately called for a rematch with Hellmuth. But the rematch is even more exciting as the second heads-up match assures $200,000 to the winner. The consequences of the rematch are also that if Hellmuth wins, Esfandiari can’t challenge him again and Hellmuth will then have to face a new opponent. It has also been concluded that if the Magician wins, there will be a rubber match between the two poker pros at the earliest. Esfandiari has always challenged Hellmuth heads-up battle, mainly after their 2012 WSOP Europe series, after the latter had complained about how unlucky he’s been against the ‘Magician.’

Heads up challenges have become a new norm between poker players nowadays. The upcoming Esfandiari vs Hellmuth match is looked forward to and so are many others lined up. The following matches will be: Poker coach Chance Kornuth vs Phil Galfond, and arch rivals Daniel Nagreanu vs Doug Polk. All the contests begin today and will be available on Twitch.
