Nik Airball Is Looking For An Investment Banking Job After Losing $1 Mn To Matt Berkey?

The controversial match that was raking storms and conversations has finally ended. The game between Nik Airball and Matt Berkey, which was supposed to be played for a total of 100 hours, concluded in just 60 hours after Airball called it quits following losing a pot over $300,000 in a set-over-set situation.

A lot of accusations, muck and dirt were thrown by both parties on each other. After losing the match, Airball apologised to Berkey with a long post in which he first congratulated Berkey and then apologised for calling him a ‘scammer.’

“I want to apologise for the comments I made about Matt being a scammer and the negative comments I made about his business. That was out of line, and I regret making those comments. I got caught up emotionally in the heat of the moment and said some things I shouldn’t have said, and for that, I apologise. Matt showed during this match that he is a true professional,” the former investment banker wrote.

Airball further added, “I have a lot to learn as a poker player. I have a newfound respect for heads-up poker. I didn’t have any experience in heads up, but I learned a lot while studying for and playing this match, and I have a lot more to learn. My experience is in live ring games, and that’s where I feel most comfortable and have the most fun.”

Known for being a spoiled brat, it was unexpected to see Airball respond humbly to his loss. Several notable names from the industry shared their views on Airball’s apology. Phil Galfond lauded Airball for taking the ‘high road’ and not blaming variance for his loss.

His opponent Berkey too, responded to his apology as he said, “I honestly think this statement is closer to the real person Nik is at his core than all of the antics reflect. Saw plenty of very small examples of him going out of his way to be kind both with his words and actions. Thank you for the apology.”

Earlier today, when Ryan Feldman posted a picture of Airball and wrote, “Confirmed busto,” the latter reposted the image. He jokingly wrote, “Anyone got a lead on an investment banking job?”

It looks like all the drama, controversy and the heads-up match made Airball learn some lessons the hard way. What do you think of his apology?
