New Milestone For Sony; Sells 10 Million PS5 Consoles Globally

Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly sold over 10 million PlayStation (PS5) consoles globally. The milestone makes the PS5 the fastest selling console in the history of Sony.

Sony shared a blog post announcing its milestone. The blog post stated that the company had successfully sold 10 million PS5 consoles by July 18th, 2021. “Pushing through supply challenges and a global pandemic, we’re proud to have delivered a transformational gaming experience that is captivating players around the world. Everyone at SIE put their best into making the PlayStation experience better than ever. I’d like to call out a couple of teams who made especially important contributions.” the blogpost read.

The blog post also expressed gratitude to the company’s hardware engineering and operations team which worked for the success of PS5. Sony ended the blog post thanking the PS5 fans saying, “We are incredibly grateful to our fans for the terrific reception of PS5 and our growing portfolio of gaming entertainment. Without your support and confidence, this early success would not have been possible. We are making steady progress with available global supply and can’t wait for the day when everyone who wants a PS5 can easily get one.”

Innovations such as lightning-fast SSD, immersive 3D audio, and a dynamic DualSense controller supported with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers is what makes PS5 stand out.

The console was first launched in November 2020 after which it often ran out of supply as soon as it was restocked. That did not stop the gamers from queuing up for their favourite console and buying it when it was back in stock.

In the blogpost, the company also spoke about the most famous game titles available on the console. Some of the most popular titles include Battlefield 2042 from Electronic Arts, DEATHLOOP from Bethesda, Far Cry® 6 From Ubisoft, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Lab.

The company also went ahead to announce the release of new upcoming titles on the consoles. Some of the upcoming titles include the new God of War from Santa Monica Studios, Gran Turismo™ 7 from Polyphony Digital, and Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrilla Games.
