Negreanu bets $1 million on him winning bracelet in WSOP 2020

Players around the world have been keenly looking forward to the greatest festival of the year, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). No doubt, the 2020 WSOP is going is look quite different than the previous 50 years. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the face of the game may change but the thrill among the poker players remains exactly the same as WSOP 2020 moves online.

It is true that the WSOP cannot run without a little drama, the series is crammed with stories of players across the world since its inception. And this time, GGPoker brand ambassador Daniel Negreanu is ready to draw some attention. On Friday, Negreanu tweeted putting out a $1 million challenge that he would win a bracelet in 2020. “I’ll take 2.5 to 1 that I win a WSOP bracelet in 2020.”

The Nevada/New Jersey segment of the online WSOP will run from 1 July through the end of the month comprising of 31 events, while the GGpoker segment will run from 19 July to 6 September. Negreanu will receive $2.5 million in a side bet if he adds a 7th bracelet to his poker career. If he doesn’t, he will lose 2% of his career live earnings. Surprisingly, there are people who are willing to take Negreanu up on the bet. He eventually sold off the entire amount to Connor Drinan and Ali Imsirovic.

Well, this is not the first time that he came up with such an idea. In 2014, the former PokerStars Ambassador posted the offer on his Twitter account. “Min bet is $5k against me and Ivey winning a bracelet this summer and the odds are even money. One of us wins, you lose. Simple,” the new challenge said, citing a maximum bet of $1 million.

However, the elusive seventh career bracelet has escaped his reach since 2013. To make it possible he will have to travel to Mexico to compete in the GGpoker events which aren’t available in the US. If there isn’t a WSOP live poker this year, he has 85 shots at winning a coveted bracelet. For more updates on WSOP, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com and stay tuned!
