Game Developer Kwalee To Invest $30 million In Its Indian Operations

Kwalee, a game developer and publisher based in the United Kingdom, is ready to invest $30 million into its India operations in the next five years. The firm currently has its headquarters in Leamington Spa and chose Bengaluru as its first overseas studio back in May 2020. As of now, the studio has around 50 employees that consists of graphic designers, game developers and programmers.

David Darling, founder & CEO, Kwalee, believes that India will be at the forefront of the growing video gaming industry in the world. Mobile gaming is a huge market in the country and is projected to grow even more. India is already one of Kwalee’s biggest markets in the mobile gaming sector with over 5 million monthly active players across all its games.

Darling stated, “India has become our largest market in terms of downloads followed by the US, UK and China. Our immediate goal is to grow our India studio by hiring the right kind of talent. We are looking to recruit people across skill sets including programmers, full stack developers, data scientists, 3D artists, creative video editors as well as direct performance marketing executives who will look at advertising for gaming titles.”

As per reports, India has contributed to the development of various games like Draw It with 90 million downloads, Teach Simulator with over 25 million downloads, Blade Forge 3D with around 20 million downloads and more. According to Darling, Kwalee focuses more on hyper casual games as they do not require skills or instructions which makes them easier to play while commuting or taking breaks.

Hyper casual games as mentioned by Darling, are easy to play as they have a simple user interface. A major chunk of Kwalee’s current revenue—around 90% comes from in-app advertising from these games.
