Poker history was nearly rewritten today as one of the best female poker players in the world ended an extraordinary run at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. She fought through to Day 8 of the annual poker event and reached the final two tables from an initial entry field of 10,112 entries!
Finishing in 13th place, America’s Kristen Foxen not only secured a substantial payday of $600,000 but also etched her name into the annals of poker as one of the highest-placing female players in the tournament’s history. Memories went back to Barbara Enright’s fifth place finish at the WSOP 1995 Main Event, which remains the only time a female player has made the final table in this tournament.

Foxen’s journey through the Main Event was a rollercoaster of emotions. Down to a perilous five big blinds at one point, she miraculously doubled up with an ace on the river, to stay alive. From there, she embarked on a remarkable surge, climbing the ranks and securing a coveted spot among the final 18 players.

With a chip stack that put her in contention for a final table berth, hopes soared for her to become just the second woman to achieve this historic feat. In fact, she was even chip leading at some point in the tournament. Unfortunately, Foxen’s incredible run came to an end in 13th place today.
While the result may not have been the ultimate dream, it is a testament to her skill, resilience, and determination. Her deep run in the world’s most prestigious poker tournament is a significant milestone for women in poker, inspiring countless players and shattering stereotypes. Her end in the tournament came after she got into a tussle with Joe Serock, and that wasn’t the best hand she’d played all day for sure. See that Kristen Foxen double up hand here:

Foxen’s achievement is a beacon of hope for aspiring female poker players, demonstrating that they can compete at the highest levels of the game. Her performance has ignited conversations about gender equality in poker and serves as a catalyst for change. As the poker world celebrates Foxen’s accomplishment, it is clear that her impact extends far beyond the felt, inspiring a new generation of female poker players to chase their dreams without limitations.
She was interviewed immediately after her elimination, and she mentioned that she was super happy with the support and the rail she had right through the event. Even Enright herself was hoping Foxen would go on to make the final table, but alas! Here’s what Twitter (X) had to say about that elimination:
no reason for Kristen foxen to tangle with serock there, there are 6 stacks shorter than you and he’s a big stack and one of the 5 or 6 best players left

That was a spectacular run by Kristen Foxen, but why go out like that? All she had to do was tighten up and let the big stacks take out the micro stacks. Who cares if you get to the final table with 20 million chips instead of 60 mill? Still, she played amazing poker for a whole…

Ugh. Kristen Foxen has been eliminated in 13th place. Sadly, a woman will not make the WSOP Main Event final table.
Awful undisciplined play on her part.
With BB at 1.2M, Joe Serock raised to 2.4M in early position, and Foxen called from big blind.

Great run by Kristen Foxen in #WSOP but I’m disappointed in that last hand. It would have been more understandable if Serock had a much smaller stack but he was in very good position to make that call on the overbet. #poker

While Foxen’s journey for a Main Event bracelet fell short, her legacy as a trailblazer is already cemented. Her performance has undoubtedly elevated the profile of women in poker and brought increased attention to the challenges and opportunities facing female players. As the poker world continues to evolve, Foxen’s historic run will be remembered as a pivotal moment in the sport’s journey towards greater inclusivity.
