Google Launches ‘Doodle Champion Island Games’ To Commemorate Tokyo Olympics

As the Tokyo Olympics kick-starts today, Google has launched a special doodle game series to mark the 15-days long sporting event. The doodle game is an interactive animated game series based on the games being played at the Tokyo Olympics.

The game will feature on the search engine’s main page instead of the Google logo, starting today. Users can simply click on the logo and start playing these exciting games.

The game series also marks Google’s largest ever doodle game. The overall game along with the opening cinematics as well as the game characters have been designed by Tokyo-based animation studio ‘Studio 4°C.’

Studio 4°C is the maker of animated games like Asura’s Wrath, Catherine and Ace Combat among others. Additionally it also has animated movies like Children of the Sea, Berserk, First Squad, Harmony and several others. The animation studio has also worked on animated short films, TV shows, music clips and commercials.

The Doodle Champion Island Games are based in a fictional game world known as ‘Champion Island.’ The Doodle Champion Island Games will cast the players in the role of a ninja cat named ‘Lucky.’ She participates in various mini-games on the island to become a sporting legend. It is a 16-bit adventure game, which gives the players a feel of the 16-bit games era, as they move around Champion Island. Players can participate in games like table tennis, skateboarding and archery among other sport challenges.

What makes it more interesting is a real-time team leaderboard. Players can join one of the four colour teams – blue, red, yellow, and green and contribute to the real-time global leaderboard.

The Tokyo Olympics was originally scheduled to take place between July 24th to August 9th, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sporting event was delayed and rescheduled to July 23rd to August 8th, 2021. It is exciting to see Google honour the biggest sporting event with an interactive doodle game.
