Georgie Thomas Passes Away At The Age Of 36

A popular name in the live Indian poker circuit, Georgie Thomas, passed away yesterday at his residence in Kolkata. Thomas died at an early age, which has caused disbelief and sorrow as several people from the industry are mourning his death.

Born on 19th July 1987, Thomas left for his heavenly abode on 5th June 2023 at the age of 36 years. The reason for his death is still unknown. However, one of Goa’s early poker managers leaves behind a void, and his contribution to the live poker in Goa will always be remembered.

Who was Georgie Thomas?

He served as a manager at various poker rooms in Goa, including the well-known Casino Pride. Later he also served as a Tournament Director at several tournaments, including the Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT) held at Casino Pride.

Like many enthusiasts of the game, he initially started online poker on various sites while in his hometown of Kolkata. While he was playing online, he was offered a job as a manager by Jim Ramchand, who at that time was running the poker room in Casino Pride. Thomas accepted this offer and came to Goa. He spent several years as a manager in Goa. Although Casino Pride’s management changed after Madhav Gupta, also known as Maddy, took over the poker room from Ramchand, Thomas continued in his role.

Those who know Thomas will testify that he was a kind-hearted and humble man. He was an extremely friendly person who won the hearts of his stakeholders, his colleagues, subordinates and customers alike. Naresh Kandolkar, also known as Terry, a close friend and a subordinate of Thomas, says, “No one ever had any complaints against Thomas. Although he was the manager, he was never reluctant to do other jobs at the casino. The entire staff respected him.”

“He was also a very dear friend of mine. He was always professional when at work and friendly outside of work. He was a supportive man, who never had a ‘No’ on his tongue,” he adds. 

Thomas’ funeral service will be held on 9th June 2023 at Queen of Peace Church, Kolkata. Rest in peace, Georgie! You will be remembered!
