We do believe in coincidences, but a puzzling turn of events makes us think hard, really heard. What are we talking about? Well, Garrett Adelstein who became talk of the town all thanks to Robbi Lew’s hero call holding J4o, has donated $135K to charity. So what if he donated money? Many people do! Yes, sure. But the sum Adelstein donated is the exact same amount he lost and then took back from Lew in that bizarre hand that shook the poker world.
The high-stakes pro shared a post on his Twitter account wherein he urged followers to donate money to the Big Brother, Big Sister of Los Angeles organization. He wrote, “I’d like to have this spotlight that’s been thrust upon me applied to something better. Please join me in donating to Big Brother, Big Sister of Los Angeles.” But this call for donation turned into a total drama when Twitterati saw the sum he donated. It was the exact same amount he lost and took back from Lew and termed her a cheater all at the same time.
I’d like to have this spotlight that’s been thrust upon me applied to something better. Please join me in donating to Big Brother, Big Sister of Los Angeles by going to: https://t.co/jjKtdplxk4 pic.twitter.com/8FITIjHvkN

Garrett stated how the spotlight should be on a good cause, and not on the alleged cheating controversy. But all hell broke loose when this popular pro donated $135K and users on Twitter weren’t ready to buy the coincidence.
Please tell me this is some sort of joke?!? Do you seriously not have a single friend or confidant that has any public relations ability or damage control experience what-so-ever. Don’t deflect. Change the message, starting with a sincere apology, and then return the money!

Donate money that’s not yours to rebuild your destroyed rep ain’t it bro.

it says Garrett donated 135k. Does that mean he wont give back to Robbi? As crazy as it is the 135k is her money unless proven to be a cheat imo

Digging in on not putting the money in escrow while combining a say-nothing post with a pretty transparent brag about charity is not a good look G.

Garrett big fan but this looks horrible. You gave zero proof she was cheating. You need to return her money asap.

Not a good strategy at all. As a lawyer I would advise u to get a PR and legal counsel asap. And dont post anything else without their approval. Taking the money from a Lady while she´s being questioned by 2 men her accuser and the owner of the game wont look good to a judge/jury

New “official” response from Garrett hot off the presses! pic.twitter.com/FGajRkpe89

Instead of donating this controversial $135k which wasn’t rightfully yours, why didn’t you escrow it, with the pledge to donate it to charity if she is proven a cheater and you get it back?
It seems the most important thing to you is that she never gets this $135k back.

the last thing i would ever do is donate to a charity of your choice. you are hurting this charity by attaching it to your name. seriously. not even joking.

“It was never about the money”
*takes it back anyways* 🤔🤔

An official statement reportedly given out by Adelstein reads the pro apologizing to Lew but only after calling her a ‘relatively unknown female amateur.’ He writes about being caught off guard by her play. The pro revealed how publicly demanding the money back from Lew (after openly accusing her of being a cheater) was the most ’embarrassing’ part of the whole incident. Adelstein states how he deeply regrets taking the money back (whether it was won by Robbi Lew legitimately or illegitimately).
But the fact that Adelstein chose to donate that money instead of giving it back to Robbi led to a whole new war of opinions on Twitter. Many users even advised Adelstein of letting a legal team look into the matter rather than posting about donating money to a charitable cause.
The Lew-Adelstein incident has divided the global poker community with varied perspectives popping up all over social media. Hustler Casino Live has issued a statement saying an investigation will be conducted which could possibly include a polygraph test. The results of the investigation are awaited. But, will the matter be settled after the findings of the case are out?
