The Macau gaming concessionaire Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has reportedly stated that they are not looking at any casino project in Boracay, Philippines. As per new reports, the firm shared this statement on Monday as a response to the calls made by their former project partner.
The issue arose last week after the founder of the former Leisure and Resorts World Corporation (LRWC), Alfredo Benitez, spoke with the media. He spoke about his intentions and revealed that he would like to proceed with the stalled $500 Million casino resort on Boracay Island in the Philippines with their gaming partner Galaxy Entertainment Group.
Both companies joined hands in 2018 and announced plans to develop a $550 Million resort on Boracay jointly. They were also granted a provisional license from Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). However, then-Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte placed a moratorium on new casino developments, which were upheld in August 2021.
Since the rebranding of LRWC into DigiPlus Interactive Corp, Benitez is claimed to have urged Galaxy Entertainment to come back on board for the casino project.

According to various sources, DigiPlus has been testing the ‘comfort level’ of Galaxy Entertainment Group and wants to know what needs to be done in order to get them back for the project. However, the Galaxy Entertainment Group has stated that their current plan contradicts what the recent media reports have shared.
According to various reports, Galaxy Entertainment Group has been active in pushing forward its development path in Macau after they reopened their in January this year. As per HSBC, Galaxy Entertainment wants a full fit-out by one-two years with respect to its original 2027 timeline. It remains interesting to see if DigiPlus can bring back Galaxy Entertainment Group on board and resume work on the Boracay project.
