Gagandeep Malik Lifts The WPT Prime India 2023 High Roller Title

The most extravagant event on the World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime India 2023 schedule, the High Roller, has finally come to an end. The record-breaking event crowned poker pro Gagandeep Malik as its ultimate champion after three days of unmatched action. Malik grabbed his first-ever WPT title along with a top prize of ₹59,60,000.

The WPT India 2023, which was scheduled to take place for two days had to be extended for another day, thanks to the massive number of entries that turned up at this event. It recorded a total of 227 entries who chipped in by paying a buy-in ₹1.25 Lakh to record a final prize pool of ₹2,63,66,050. This was the biggest High Roller event in the history of WPT India 2023.

Day 2 of the event concluded with the top six players deciding to return for Day 3. Interestingly, at around 2 AM on 17th April 2023, when the players were deciding on whether to continue playing till the winner or pause the game and resume the next day, Malik was firm on returning the next day. Accordingly, the decision was taken and looks like Malik was up to some serious business when making that decision.

It was down to the final two from the six after more than two hours into Day 3. Malik and Guneet Kwatra were up against each other with Malik holding on to a hefty chip lead. Kwatra shoved all-in with A 4 against Malik’s 8 T . Malik flopped a pair on the 2 T Q 5 Q board, which brought no rescue to Kwatra crowning Malik the champion.

  • Malik: 8 T
  • Kwatra: A 4
  • Board: 2 T Q 5 Q

Although Kwatra was left just short of winning the tournament, he did give the players a good run for their money. He resumed Day 3 as the shortest stack with just 1.12 Million chips at his disposal. Nonetheless, he gave a solid fight which is there for all to see. From being the shortest stack to crawling to the top to finish runner-up is truly note-worthy. Kwatra takes home ₹39,55,000 for his runner-up finish.
