EXCLUSIVE: Akash Saikia Aims At Winning A WSOP Bracelet

 The poker industry is flourishing by leaps and bounds and there is a lot to look forward to. We bring to you the inspiring stories of the newbies in the poker town. One such player who is making headway in the poker circuit is Akash Pritom Saikia, aka ‘thenotoriouspoker.’ He is a professional poker player currently based in Goa.

This 24-year-old was born and brought up in Assam. Previously, Saikia played poker on Spartan Poker, PokerBaazi.com, Adda52 and PokerStars. We had a chat with Saikia to know more about his game and more.

Who introduced you to poker?

I was doing Bachelors in Technology in Automotive engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and that’s where I was introduced to the game. My roommate would play poker, and that’s how I also started playing.

 How long have you been playing poker?

 I have been playing poker for the last five years. 

Which was your biggest win so far?

I prefer live cash tournaments and hence I do not have any big online winnings.

Do you have any mentors in the Indian poker circuit? If yes, then how has the mentoring benefited you?

I am actively looking for a mentor as I really want to work on my game. I want to understand all about the tournaments and would love to learn from a mentor.

As a poker player, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see myself as a world poker champion. I want to win the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) and I am on my way to winning the WSOP bracelet. I am working hard and will soon position myself as one of the top poker players in the country. 

Are there any players you look up to? If yes, please name them.

I absolutely love poker coach Abhishek Goindi’s game. On the international level, Fedor Holz and Daniel Negreanu’s work is what I really look upto.

Any player you feel will pose tough competition for you on a final table?

I am my biggest competition. I’m not afraid of my opponents. I choose to be determined while playing my game. I will surely brave all odds and achieve my goals.
