Doug Polk Cries Foul As Player Uses Solver In Live Poker!

Doug Polk has often found himself in the news after he expressed his opinions on matters that don’t involve him whatsoever (hey, anything for publicity, right?). The three-time World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner is often seen ranting on Twitter whenever he comes across something that he doesn’t like. Recently the 34-year-old lost his patience after he saw a fellow poker player use a solver during a live tournament. Yes, you read it right! 

The Texas-based pro lashed out on Twitter after seeing such antics. He wrote, “If a player is using a solver during a hand they should be disqualified from any event they are playing in. I wasn’t there during this hand but as a general rule mid hand solver consulting should be a DQ in any event.”

What are solvers in poker? 

A poker solver is an extremely popular tool amongst poker players! It helps in calculating various odds and gives analysis as well as providing an opinion on how the game should be played at the given stage. While poker solvers may not be allowed during live play, you may find them useful as study tools where you input hypothetical situations and it shows you how to make the most efficient decision.

We all know no poker player on this planet has conquered Game Theory Optimal (GTO), which is also a feature of solvers, the use of this mechanism in live poker games cannot be accepted. And the bigger shocker was that the Tournament Director allowed the player to continue.

Doug Polk may be hogging limelight all the time for getting into other peoples controversies. (he did that with Robbi Lew – Garrett Adelstein and Matt Berkey – Nik Airball) However, he could be right on pulling up the player using solvers, one can’t possibly forget that he dragged Charlie Carrel into mud for the sake of publicity and later apologised for his action. Carrel is a victim of child abuse and Doug Polk did not think once to rub salt on his wounds. Neither did Polk have any sense of judgement when he declared Robbi Lew a cheater without providing an ounce of evidence against her.
