When it comes to poker players, there are only a few who are willing to share their yearly profits with the world. Thankfully, one of them is Daniel Negreanu. The Canadian professional poker player took to social media to reveal his annual profit for 2021, giving people a glimpse of his hard-earned money.
A skilled poker professional with six World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets to his credit and a 2014 Poker Hall of Fame inductee, Negreanu is a respected figure in the poker community. Unlike a majority of professional and well-known poker players, Negreanu is not shy about revealing his yearly profits which are interesting to look at as it shows how much prize money he has earned and one can also compare it to the previous years.

While information of a player’s earnings are easy to find on the internet thanks to websites like Global Poker Index, Hendon Mob, etc. it’s the figures for the total buy-ins that are harder to get. This makes it difficult to determine who is or is not a profitable player.
Final tally 2021:
Events 97
Cashes 30
Buyins $2,596,373
Cashouts $3,180,396
Avg Buy in $26,766
Profit $584,0231/2

Interestingly, according to Negreanu’s revelation, it seems that the poker pro has made a profit of $584,023 in 2021. However, that profit comes after spending around $2,596,373 in total buy-ins. This means that while Negreanu has managed to amass a total of $3,180,396 via cashouts, he’s managed to get only a little over 20% in return. As one user rightly points out, these numbers only show people how difficult it actually is to make money even as a professional and consistent player.
This is such a great reveal. It shows the casual gamblers playing poker that, actually, even at the highest stakes of tourneys, from clearly a consistent pro (let’s not argue about DN’s ability) that you have to risk $2.6m to make a 20% return. That’s a hell of a risk imo. Gg.

The past year has certainly been eventful for the pro as he had lucrative cashouts at the 2021 WSOP, where he earned most of his profits. Even though the GGPoker ambassador did not clinch any title, his consistent performance was evident with seven top 10 finishes and 18 cashes in 55 WSOP events. He also found himself as the third runner-up for the WSOP Player of the Year title, which was given to Josh Arieh. He also shipped the $50,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event at the PokerGO Cup for $700,000 and was named by Global Poker Index as the Canadian Player of the Year 2021.

In this Twitter thread, Negreanu also revealed his profits from some previous years. His highest annual numbers come from the year 2014 where he had a profit of $7,100,164. This was the year in which he shipped two WPT titles – the Borgata for $1.1 million and the Bellagio Five Diamond for $1.8 million. He was awarded the WSOP and WPT Player of the Year titles in the same year.
Those who have been following ‘DNegs’ in the past year would know about his public heads-up match with Doug Polk called ‘Grudge Match of the Century’ where Negreanu lost $1.2 million to Polk. Poker legend Phil Hellmuth also pocketed $400,000 from Negreanu after winning their High Stakes Duel heads-up challenge. But then again, wins and losses are a part of the game.
2013 $1,963,500
2014 $7,100,164
2015 $952,920
2016 -$1,246,693
2017 -$86,140
2018 $1,412,053

In the last part of his tweet, Daniel Negreanu also adds that he will likely be scaling back in 2022 ‘with minimal to no travel for tourneys.’ This would mean that he would most probably stick to online events and slowly build his bankroll. With almost no travelling for tournaments, it seems like 2022 will rather be a quiet year for this poker champion.
